Popular or not, the iPhone is very close to a perfect device for me. Touch screen keyboard isn't the absolute best, but for the amount I email it works.
If you are a heavy BB road warrior the iPhone probably won't be good enough though.

But certainty is an absurd one.
Right now the iphone email works pretty well. It's quite basic but is lacking one feature I would consider to be absolutely necessary in todays age of not deleting emails: a search function. It isn't a deal killer, but it's pretty big.
In summer the iphone is getting a large update and one of the big items is a search function for everything across the phone (including emails).

Wow. Probably couldn't disagree with this more. I'm in a business environment and use my iphone constantly. Just because it has access to many "fun" applications does not mean that it isn't suitable to a grown up environment.

The two are very different. The iPhone is way more fun but would not work well as a hardcore email device connected to an enterprise-level server. I rarely use email on the iPhone, but I do use it for texting short messages.
The iPhone does a lot more things (look at the app store), and even without extra apps, outclasses the BB for many functions, but does not replace the sturdy reliability of the BB.
I find the iPhone kind of flaky in that it often (every couple weeks minimum) needs hard resets, and I've had to wipe it and restore it 4 times already (about once every 2nd month) due to crashing.
The iPhone has intermittent problems connecting to various networks (3G, Wifi, or otherwise). Sometimes I have problems with phone calls staying connected on it, while the BB is flawless. I find the remote control for iTunes works only intermittently even though I have my home network set up properly.
My BB (I'm now on my 3rd version of the BB, have used them for many years) has never crashed, and might drop one call every 3 or 4 months, a sharp contrast to the iPhone.
Of course, I'm not downloading all kinds of apps onto my BB.
You've restored it 4 times? I am in the same boat with you about needing hard resets ... about 2 a month probably for me. As for restores, dropped calls, connecting to networks and remote control I can't say I've had any of the same problems. Can the apple store run a diagnostic for you I wonder?
There is a guy I work with that gave me a hard time when I got the iPhone. Said I just joined the rest of the "drones" in the world.
Happens when something gets this popular. Many start to "not like it" so they don't appear to be part of the "drones" out there.
I'm not saying that's what is happening here specifically, but that is why I've seen some hate for the iPhone in my personal experiences.
It goes two ways though. Like how iPod (is that right kermit?) is synonymous with MP3 player. People go to buy iPods and don't even know there is other brands that were around before, or may be better. That's not the case with iPhone's but, people buy them because they're cool probably more because people hate them because they're cool.
Disclaimer - I have a BB and hate iStuff because... because I'm one of those people. I've said I've got to get my MP3 player or something like that to be asked "you mean your iPod" or so many things along those lines. To which I've said "no, my Creative xx, or sandisk, or xxx" and I get asked why I don't just get an iPod. I'm actually getting annoyed just thinking about this.
I think it might all stem from quicktime being on my computer a decade ago and it felt like a virus, like real audio, or real player... LOL
I can see where the BB is preferred over the iPhone when it comes to email but a teen device? Com'on! I have push email, calendar and contacts through Microsoft ActiveSync on my iPhone. Works fine for business.
I always laugh when people say I am just following the crowd because I use Apple stuff. These are the same people that used to tell me to get a real computer (PC) back in the 90s.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHA.. and owning a Blackberry is going AGAINST the grain?!
Wookie:
That is right, it's the same thing as people calling tissues Kleenex all the time even if it's made by Scott. The mass market product becomes synonymous with the TYPE of product.
That being said.. brand loyalty is ######ed, and if you subscribe to it you're ######ed. :P

You sound just like me before about 6 months ago. I used to swear by Creative mp3 players and windows pc's. Then I bought an Ipod Classic and a Macbook. Slowly but surely, Apple will get you.
Seriously though, overall I'm pretty happy with Mac stuff since I've made the switch. Just because something is popular doesnt mean it isnt good. It does bother me a little bit that because I own a mac i'm now kind of closed off from other brands of mp3 players and whatnot, because there's lots of good products out there.
I don't have an iphone but would consider getting one over a blackberry. The web browsing and additional apps, and the media features...its a pretty amazing device.

As it is for me. It does everything I need it to do and more. I'm able to sync everything I need through my PC. At the same time, I have the little additions to my phone that make it personal and a perfect all-in-one device. I use WunderRadio to get stations I want from around to globe and transmit it in my car, while it still completes all of my business needs through emails and other forms of communication.
Apple continues to be innovative when it comes to the iPhone and the anticipation of the 3.0 software is pretty exciting. I also think the application store is really what sets the bar so high for the iPhone. Users can basically find everything and anything.
I have an iPhone, but next year when I decide it's time for a new phone, I'll grab a Bb, just to check it out... why not? How long do you keep your phones for? If you replace it yearly like I seem to do, then who cares, try them both and then decide!
