I dont mind the government trying to control the liquor business...in many cases if it is made incorrectly it can kill the drinker with very small amounts.
this guy was a legend though....and made the best "likker" in this area apparently.

I realize he was breaking the law.....but the guy is 62 years old, and there is no way he would harm anyone, or be a threat to society.
Put him under house arrest, like he wanted.

Jeebus, the homemade stuff? I bought a bottle of the legit stuff in Italy once and it nearly killed me.

Because I'm a nerd I looked up Moonshine on Wikipeida
Loved what I found:
Quote:
A legal version of Moonshine called Cape Breton Silver by Glenora Distillery is fairly widely available around Canada. It is raw, unaged whiskey distilled in the same way as illegal moonshine, and is 50% ABV.

Despite the fact I'm just learning this now, I'm so proud

Dude...he was convicted on gun charges. The whole reason they got him this last time was because there was an explosion of one of his stills...and when the authorities came to check it out they found numerous weapons.
Local tales have him doing harm a few times in his life.
As a side note...someone told me today that he his coffin made years ago and kept it in his living room...it said on the top...
"Popcorn says f*** you".
hilarious.

Yeah, quite the guy.
Just saying that the authorities could have been more lenient with him, considering his age and other things.

I have Italian friends in Ontario that make their own. If you've had the legit stuff, the homemade swill will kill you. It is poison. Seriously.
And they drink it out of cups. Not shot glasses or small tumblers, but fataing CUPS. Like a proper glass of the stuff. Here would you like a huge glass of poorly distilled death?
Sure, why not?

My old man used to buy whiskey barrels every summer, put them out in the hot sun and fill them with boiling water and let them sit for 60 days. The stuff that came out of that was pure jet fuel and when you pulled the cork everyone had to put out their smokes.
We were probably the only bootleggers in Lake Bonavista

Tranny, I have to ask based on the picture in your initial post, did you meet Popcorn the day you sat down with Willie?

Nope...met WIllie when he was playing a gig in the arena where our team played....so my office was about 50 feet from the concourse and i was able to walk out and watch bands do sound checks and such.
Never met popcorn myself but did see him at a bluegrass festival a few years back...and he was pointed out to me. From what I understand, he was one ornery old coot and was very particular as to who he would converse with. Like I say though... a real legend in these thar hills!

I think it was because it was made at night, in the moonlight? My x husbands father and grandfather were old moonshiners from the hills in Thunder Bay. True hillbilly's.
