I have had the IE8 Beta for months. I never use it. It's only there because I need it for some items on the Vista Sidebar to work in XP.

Adblock will probably have me securely fastened to firefox for years. I've grown a massive hate for IE ... probably unfair as I haven't even given an IE release attention in years.

Goodie... yet another MS browser I have to specifically code CSS for.
WTB decent MS developers who can build mission critical web apps that don't depend on IE6. Seriously, IE6 should not be a requirement for web development anymore.

A web browser is NOT a simplistic program. Especially when taking the concepts of web services, AJAX apps and other complicated distributed systems into consideration.
I'm amazed most of the browsers out there are able to pack as much functionality as they do into the amount of resources they do take up.

yep, AdBlock and RemoveItPermanently are the two addons that will forever keep me using Firefox. having not only the ability to never see ads, but also able to fix the holes in websites left from removing the ads with RIP is a godsend

Well, I've used IE8 off and on for a few days on a couple of Vista machines, and I must say, I'm pleasantly surprised by it. I wouldn't say it's outright spectacular, but it is very good. Has caught up to or surpassed Firefox in most observable ways IMO, except for the one huge difference... amazing, free user-created add-ons.
Unless Microsoft does something to counter this Mozilla innovation, it will likely remain a (the) deal-breaker for many hardcore web surfers. Myself included.

Count me in the crowd who has trouble getting excited about browsers, either way. (But I'm also the sort of person who doesn't personalize his desktop or his phone, etc.. ) But even if you hate MS, you have to at least be grateful that IE8 is going to be a lot more standards compliant and that will eventually be good for Firefox users, though it may take a few years to see the result.

1. Turn on computer
2. Double click on Firefox (or IE) icon
3. Boom! Internet.
It's just that easy, kids.

The new IE8 comes with a porn mode. I hear that works well for this type of surfer.

Absolutely agree. IE6 killed whatever loved to make webpages inside of me. While many of those hassles will continue, it's nice to know the road is maybe getting a little less bumpy.

People are already complaining that "the new IE won't work with their web page" because IE8 defaults to web standards mode instead of whatever MS calls that other mode.
