I got a free shuffle from one of the vendors I work with, and it sat in it's box for 6 months before I bothered with it. Now I have it filled, but when I select the shuffle function it plays the same four songs over and over, and I have to hit the fast forward button a whole bunch of times to get it to play a song other than those four, and as soon as that song is finished it reverts back to those same four songs. Maybe this new one will be better, but personally I never got the hype over the whole i-stuff phenomenon. My $20 3Gb mp3 player blows the shuffle out of the water. The only thing I do like about it is how compact and unobtrusive it is to wear around. But maybe I just got a dud?

edit: bah, those reviews are kind of damning for the Griffin. Perhaps I'll buy the monster adapter and just not tell anybody.
I have a hatred for all things Griffin, stemming back to my bad experience with the original iTrip garbage.

I will have to take a strong look at the Monster thing, I didn't even know this stuff existed.

I just (with great shame) ordered the monster. I'll be sure to post impressions when it arrives.

Terribly sorry for the derailment OP

Haha We won't tell anyone, but I'd like to hear how well it worked for you. And I, too, echo the apology for de-railing the thread.

Sorry, I didn't read through the thread ('cause I don't care about this) but thought this might be interesting:

If you don't use Apple's headphones, you have to buy their proprietary headphone jack.

haha I remember the iTrip.. 50 tracks of beep beep that always managed to come up a dozen times when you shuffled it through all songs. It was such a pain to make it work.

If it wasn't for the silly proprietary headphones I'd be very tempted to swallow my anti-apple pride and plunk down my hundred bucks for this. The headphones make me shake my head though and decide against. I'll want to use different headphones which makes the price on the shuffle more like $130. For $150 you can get an 8gb nano with full controls or for under 100 a Sansa or some other 4gb player or gawd forbid an 8gb Zune.

Seems like an odd move to go proprietary but then Apple has a history of going their own way. Perhap we'll all just have to get good at soldering so we can pull apart the apple headphones and replace the earbuds with ones we like.

I hear ya. See I'm an apple fan so I'm usually not bothered when they force consumers to go a certain direction because I usually like what they force us to use. The earbuds though are just a puzzle to me. I don't understand how anybody can use them. I suppose it's the shape of my ear canal, but it feels like I'm shoving stones in my ears.
