Yeah I like to keep my animated avatars fairly subtle, not too much movement, even this one is a bit much but it's dark so it's ok.

Animated sigs, I guess I like them, I'm able to skip over them when I need to. The kowala one is actually too big but I left it for a few days because I liked it.
That's a great idea!

I kid I kid

The only animated sig I like is Transplant's. I dance along with the cat every time I see it.

haha nice,
I should use that as my sig, then maybe more people would know how my handle should be pronounced...

otherwise, I have nothing productive to add
carry on

It's okay flip, you don't have to worry. I'll resize it to less than 75 pixels on each side later on.

I believe that my sig (thanks to AC) is totally awesome and my avatar is as well. It makes me more recognizable.

My avatar in particular is super sweet.

Actually don't worry about it. I've figured it out. Firefox allows me to block specific images, just right click and hit block images from... Make them as big as you want.

Naw, I as well realized fairly quickly that giant animated crazyness can certainly get out of hand.

No reason for people to block or ignore me based on my sig.

It's a slippery slope

No I don't even have to block you. I just right click on your image, hit block and your image goes away completely.

If people like some sigs but not others it is a great solution. Only works on images though, not text.

I have taken everyone off my ignore list and just blocked images, now I get all the sigs I want to see and none of the ones I don't. And I can still read all posts and don't have to ignore anyone.

That's a good solution!

Though I will still update the guidelines with a more strict and clear outline for sig image sizes, and maybe add some wording regarding animated sigs and avatars, to try and keep them subtle.

I feel honored to be mentioned as a good sig, and my input is that animated is good when it's suttle. Some people's are a little much.

And yeah, I like how you can identify people by their sigs. It makes it easy to look for people you want to read. Then again, some avatars and sigs actually deter you from reading people's that you used to like. Like an ugly guy looking around. Dion.

I can't stand surfing other forums (primarily as a non-registrant) and see nothing but massive sigs (pics and/or text). Couple lines of post... two scrolls to move past their sig... line of post... three scrolls to move past their sigs....

The beauty of CP was the minimalist nature of sigs for years (no higher than about 100 pixels). There were some sigs even in that space.

For the last few years, the CP standards are "Signatures must be no larger than 400px wide by 150px tall. Some extra text is ok, but try to keep it about that high." but even that isn't enforced. I think for one, the extra text on a full sized sig shouldn't be allowed. 150 K tall? No text. Text plus pic about 150? No problem.

As for current ones outside the "must be no larger than 400px wide by 150px tall"... and this is just from a brief surf tonight...

Some of those are HUGE!!

If I can get a permanent infraction for calling an idiot an idiot which is a violation of the rules, then I respectfully request that all the other rules of the forum be followed as well, especially about sigs.

I LMAO when posters pop one up, get it deleted by a mod and have that "Mod edit, signature violates rules" show up for YEARS... there are a couple frequent posters who don't even know their sig was deleted. WDF? They must be setting them up, but have THEIR signature viewing turned off. Does that make sense to anyone?

Bottom line.... stick with the rules people. Keep the sigs small.

Since I'm kind of a sig. nazi I would like to add that this one is a bit big:

http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showpos...0&postcount=46

I actually don't mind the wide ones, it is the deep ones that bother me. A post will take up half my monitor but only have 2 lines of actual text in the post and the rest is all sig.

I agree with some but IgnitedSoul is 50px to long, big deal. I have seen much worse on other forums where people take up half the screen with their signature.

Why don't you just turn off signatures so you don't have to look at them if they annoy you?
