What source do you need? Smoking is cool and people want to hang out with the cool kids.

He might not have a source, but I agree with the second half, I picked up a lot of deals on smoke breaks when I worked down town.

Hey I will be the first to admit that my current position I have lots of free time and get my work done, but I see every other group that I work with and I can say that in the trying times that the O&G is seeing and with layoffs to some people and being a more skeleton crew that these Smokers are not pulling the same weight as those that are non-smokers. The special treatment is sometimes unbearable as well. Just because you and your supervisor go for smoke breaks does not again provide a special relationship.

I guess it depends on what their roll is. I've seen smokers that are far more effective with their time then non smokers. Of course if we're talking about piecemeal work then its different.

They should be forced to take a science course as well with a heavy emphasis on scientific evidence. Because anyone who actually is presented with as much evidence against something and still does it needs to be removed from the gene pool.

Upon further review, I think smoke breaks are a great way to network.

Seen it all, needed a smoke afterwards.
And please, someone remove me from the gene pool, I'm waiting for my exit from this mortal coil.

Maybe you should take up smoking? Didn't Mr. Leary say that the years you lose are the bad ones anyways? The ones where you're in diapers and drooling, you don't need those.

How much time did you waste tracking the breaks and time off for each smoker in your office?
Why worry about it..i'm sure if management see it as a problem they will address it. Most office environments don't have people "working" every single dedicated minute they are supposed to. Its the nature of office work.

We should just allow smoking in offices again like it's 1955 and your boss has a cigar in his mouth and we are all banging away at typewriters while chainsmoking at our desks. Imagine what would happen to user efficiency? That would be like working 8 days a week!

So you won't mind when your healthcare premiums are raised 200% as they should be and mine are lowered by at least 50% when the bozo politicians finally realize we can't afford to keep paying through the nose so dummies can kill themselves and others because they need their crutch?

Yes it does actually...If he is spending time and chatting and becoming friends with your boss while they male bond over smoking and you aren't... I'd call that a special relationship.

Do you ever eat McDonald's? We should put that into the health care premium calculations too.

Considering most smokers in my office seem to go for a smoke break once every hour or two, and they usually last at least 15 minutes, I don't feel bad about taking a long-ish coffee break, or going for a walk around the block to stretch my legs and get some fresh air. If no one is telling you not to, what's stopping you from going and taking a non-smoke break?

You'll be paying for my chemo. Thanks.

I don't take a 15 minute crap everyday, on company time, like others.
I demand reparations also.

Personaly i could care less if a smoker is taking all these smoke breaks. My focus is on my job and the tasks and responsibilities involved. If those smoke breaks are interfering with said smokers job i'm sure his or her boss will deal with that.

No I don't and I eat out usually only once per week. Do you believe in the tooth fairy etc. as well? Obviously you don't have any belief in science if you choose to smoke.

I'd love to chime in here, but I waste a lot of company time screwing around on the internet. There is a legitimate argument I think if you are not allowed to take 15 minute breaks periodically throughout the day. Perhaps my workplace is more lenient than some, but if we want we can leave for 15-20 minutes and go for a walk, grab a snack or just zone out. If you want to smoke in that time or just let off some steam it's pretty much up to you.
I'd definitely be up in arms if there was a "no leaving the office" policy though.
