Isn't this exactly the same type of thing we give the Chinese huge amounts of crap for?

No, because Canada caves to whoever whines the loudest.

In Canada we censor and babysit FOR the people because the leftish, metro-sexual types that work for CBC in Toronto know what is best for us. In China they censor because they are bad.

As always when the CRTC considers regulating my internet my message to them is: good luck with that.

I'm afraid I don't quite understand what they are proposing here. How would this work?

If I want to watch a youtube video of a guy getting hit in the nuts by a football, will I have to get some Canadian content first? Will every 3rd video I want to watch have to be from Canada?

I don't like the CRTC fussing with TV and radio, but at least that makes some amount of sense. If you are going to broadcast in Canada, you gotta show/play some Canadian stuff and that's that.

But the internet isn't in Canada. They can't control it and any effort to do so will fail or be circumvented so fast it'll be like the controls don't exist at all. It'll cost a lot of money though, we can be sure of that.

When I star in a movie or a TV show, I do it because I want to work, I want people to see the show, to experience it. They can't do that if they aren't given the choice."
I've never cared for this guy so I just didn't watch his shows. I've always been given the choice. I have the choice to watch or not watch him right now. He appears to be lobbying for me to have an enhanced choice, through which my ISP will show me his unfunny material whether I want to see it or not. Thanks for the choice, Mr. Mochrie. By the way, has anyone ever told you that you look like a penis?

In the most simple breakdown, what they're looking for is a general "tax" that will be added onto what ISPs charge for internet access. Of course we know that the ISPs will directly pass of this charge to us. I'm not sure if they've exactly stated that's what they want, but I think that we can construe that that's the direction they're going.

Much like the blank CD tax. Basically a cash grab. Complete and utter garbage.

EDIT: oops I see that Bobblehead has already stated this.

Ah, I see. Thanks.

I'm generally for "funding the arts", but this this stinks like feet. It's like paying for the right to not buy something.

Now I'm wondering if there is a way I can get in on it. It is the internet after all, so anyone can put stuff on it.

In fact, I just had an idea. Any Canadian out there is not reading this post owes me a penny. It is 100% Canadian content after all. It is my artistic output and I deserve to be compensated if people aren't willing to read it.

It's called Google, now stop appearing on Canadian TV because you are one of the most annoyingly useless actors/comedians of all time. Your schtick got tired in 1993 without all those other guys on Channel 4's Whose Line is it Anyway (except for that girl with the big hair). If your Canadian content was compelling enough, I'm sure it would be posted on CP or chain e-mailed or otherwise virally transmitted around the english speaking world as that is how the internet works. Of course, it isn't compelling at all and basically crap that people on the internet wouldn't want to watch, therefore why should I be lining your pockets?

Not cool, I'd be surprised if something like this actually went through...

CRTC works for the government. The government works for us (as the people).

So stop whining ineffectually on a local bulletin board and get on the horn to your local representative. It's their job to hear your concerns and bring them up in session.

Democracy takes work beyond simply voting your favorite team into seats every 4-6 years.

Whoa whoa WHOA! What does being left leaning have to do with being metro sexual?!

And as for the thread topic, as it's been mentioned, the internet will just prove to hard to regulate or control. I just hope they don't spend to much time or money thinking they can.

All people from Toronto are metro sexual. All metro-sexuals are liberal lefties who are weak and soft on the inside.

Don't you know that?

Lol, I'd classify myself as pretty liberal (though usually fiscally conservative and against government interference to this extent) but I HATE metrosexuals, lol.

I've already got a pretty good list of Can-Con supporting artists that I boycott. If you think the government has to force people to like your stuff in order to create "culture," then I don't want to buy it..
