Really? If that's the case then you won't like him as he will have to change and change a lot. His regular act will offend to many people and he will either have to tone it down or leave.
Which begs a question, is a toned down Conan funny?

You're making a lot of assumptions. No point in even thinking about this until it might happen.

Maybe, but the fact is that in the new time slot he will need to appeal to the mom and pop having a glass of wine at the end of the day rather than the half-drunk generation-xer that just got back from a party.
Will mom and pop enjoy the silly string dance and the borderline x-rated material? Time will tell, but I can see that as being an issue. I enjoy his clever jokes, but the silly act not so much.

Is show time relevant anymore with PVRs and time-shifting? People watch what they want, when they want.

not to mention these shows are on right before/after each other. its not like one is on at 6:30pm and the other is on at 2am... sure there's a different dynamic, but its not like it will be a totally different show. i remember old people talking about how they wouldn't watch after carson left and leno took over... he did just fine didn't he?

True, but the Tonight Show right now is shown on other channels at earlier times. Conan's current format wouldn't allow that.
It will be interesting to see how the ratings are affected when both guys get settled.

Conan confirmed last night that Max and the entire band are going to Cali too.
He replayed the Triumph Star Wars bit, and was visited by Martha Stewart and Nathan Lane.

Yeah, it was a good show last night. If I had any ability to plan in advance I would have taken a vacation in New York about now and try to get into one of the last shows.

That's absolutely hilarious! Bear frantically trying to find his cell phone in his fanny pack.. BWAHAHAHA

You guys are forgetting the largest market (BY FARRRRR) is eastern USA, which plays shows first, so unless they want to watch the show LATER, airtime is still an issue

I read in the paper the other day that they've been showing fan favorite skits during the week. For those that watch have they been airing any of the "Recliner of Rage" skits? I don't have a chance to watch Late Night so I'm really hoping that they put out a DVD or something with his favorite skits (selling his Ford Taurus was great!) or someone puts something together that'll be available for download.

No recliner of rage. I'm still hoping for the old timey baseball game and funniest moments, like when Bob Costas competely burned Conan on a baseball metafor.

My favorite burn Conan burn was by Natalie Portman. Conan spent the first half of the interview mocking Star Wars geeks (to Natalie's visible annoyance), then eventually moved on to talk about Cold Mountain. Conan: "You may not know this but I'm a huge civil war enthusiast--" Portman: "Oh yeah, that's way cooler than being a Star Wars fan."
It's one of those moments that could have been scripted, but it certainly felt like it was spontaneous. Conan getting burned by a pretty girl over something he was sincerely enthusiastic about was just classic.

I'm so happy that Reading Week has coincided with Conan's last week, I've been able to watch every episode so far. I love his schtick he has going on this week, how every episode during his monologue he says he will give a member of the audience a part of his set. A crew member then hands him a big axe and sledgehammer and he tears apart something on the set to give it to them. Yesterday he went after La Bamba's music stand, it was hilarious! It was stuck because it was attatched to a bunch of electrical cords so he just chopped em up with his axe, then carried the thing into the crowd. Haha La Bamba looked stunned, you could tell it was classic "spur of the moment" Conan. He realized later he had taken big chunks out of the floor and that his producer was p*ssed at him, it was priceless. I heart Conan.
I really hope they bring back Andy Richter for the last show, especially to do an old-school staring contest. Those were the best, I wish someone would post one on Youtube.

And for the record I think Conan will do fine on the Tonight Show. Remember that people weren't happy when he took over for Letterman on Late Night 16 years ago either, as he was a virtual unknown at the time. It's just change people don't like, that's the real issue here. Give him a couple years to settle in and people to get used to him and everything will be fine.
Agreed that he'll have to "pull it back" alot regarding all the silliness on his current show, but I still think he can keep the over-all feel of the show similar to the way it is now. When Letterman jumped to CBS and the 11:30 timeslot people thought his antics would be inappropriate for the earlier time as well, and has he really changed that much since then?

Haha oh definitely agreed. Conan still does those sometimes with his guests but they're just not the same without Andy, he had the perfect delivery. It's like they've completely forgotten about the Staring Contest gag though, I haven't seen him do that since Andy left(unless I've just missed em).

Is anyone else wondering how Jay Leno is going to do in the 10:00 timeslot? That's generally the timeslot reserved for a lot of NBC's top programs. ER, Dateline, Medium, Law & Order etc.
As for Conan at 11:30 I think he'll be fine - there's enough people in their 20s and 30s who get Conan's humour and will watch that it'll more than offset Mom & Pop who can get their Leno fix 90 minutes earlier.

It won't be that difficult, NBC is really lacking in quality programs. ER is done after this season, and it won't take much reshuffling to fit Leno in for a half an hour a night.
