If I recall, Pretty Vegas was a 100% JD Fortune song that he wrote for one of the "Rock Star INXS" challenges.
I has to be tough for a band that had been round for 20 years to try and integrate with a new lead singer, especially one much younger than the rest of the group.

JD only came up with some of the lyrics, like a few bars and main chorus. The entire project was based on a song already written and performed instrumentally by INXS for their new album and they used it for the reality show as one of the contests for the performers to come up with lyrics for it.
He would definetely get a portion of the song writing credit royalties for his lyrics work...but our exposure to him and the Switch album and the song in Canada were probably distorted because it definetely wasn't very popular or anything in the U.S.

OK, I just recalled that they were supposed to break into 2 groups to write a song, and that JD Fortune didn't like the song his group was coming up with and wrote his own.
So he was chastised for not being able to work with the group, but he wrote the better song.
I just couldn't recall how far he took it.

I find it funny that a guy who used to live in his car can't get it together enough to even have some low rent apartment somewhere and has to go back to living out of his car. Switch was a huge sales disappointment and the the tour ended up playing smaller venues and ending a lot quicker than they thought going into the Rock Star:INXS project but to not have a place to live blows my mind.
For the Pretty Vegas song writing credit: Marty Casey also has a credit on that song. Fortune has two other credits on that album but seeing as the album isn't actually played anywhere nor is it selling it probably doesn't matter much.
I think Marty Casey still does some shows as a solo act but he is actually the lead singer of one of the incarnations of L.A. Guns (the one led by Tracii Guns). All in all he hasn't been that successful either, but I'm guessing he doesn't live out of his car.

The dude is obviously a bit of a flake if he can't turn the chance he had into something better than "back living in his car".

Am I the only person who didn't know INXS was still together? I thought they fell apart about 2 months after that show and were never heard from again.

Is that in the States, cause in Canada they played all the big arenas. I think there was 8 or 9 thousand fans at the Dome when they came through.

Yeah, they were only big in Canada because of how oddly skewed the Rock Star show was to Canadians with Suzie Macneil and JD Fortune and Lukas Rossi, etc.
They became a minor hit in Canada, INXS still had some popularity in Australia...but basically nobody cared anywhere else in the world.

Not Fired?
Quote:
The INXS / JD Fortune saga will continue this week following an announcement from former manager and new record company boss Chris Murphy that the band did not sack JD Fortune.
Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Murphy says, "Not only are we shocked by the claims, even the place the supposed incident was to have taken place is a mystery to the band."

Well, the problem is that they said that they would "get back to him" 2 years ago and he hasn't got a single phone call in all that time so he probably keep doing the coke and everything and living out of his truck waiting for a call and just assumed that he was fired.
So uhh...Jokes on him for assuming and making an ass out of u and me?
His outburst might have screwed INXS over now? I think he's going to be a much bigger success now on his own anyway.

BTW, Lukas Rossi has told JD, his door's always open. JD says that they should go and tour Canada.
I don't know about you guys, but I freaking love Lukas Rossi's album which you can hear on the bottom of his page. His blog talks about JD too.

And JD has tracks from his new album on his Myspace and they are pretty excellent as well.

Maybe it's because they are both Canadian and both won the same show and I watched that show pretty religiously because it was the only reality show that seemed real and had people with genuine talent on it that I like these two but they really do make good music. I prefer Lukas' quasi indie-electro-rock but JD has a more acoustic/bluesy sound to it which is excellent too. For someone who looks so goth and dark --- Lukas' music has so much pure candy pop rock lol

Hasn't Gene Simmons been making a living of a gimmick for like 100 years now?
I think your letter should have been signed by New Coke.
As for JD, he's a Nova Scotian, and I always had a soft spot for "Never Tear Us Apart" so the news was exciting for a few days when he won. Pretty much hated every song I heard from him though, so yeah... who cares, IMO. Seems to be a lot of coke heads from New Glasgow.... two more of them just moved in down the street from me. The NS flag in my window persuaded them to introduce themselves... wait... what is this thread about? Oh yeah, KISS is playing in Nova Scotia this summer. Government subsidies and public parkland for a tired overplayed gimmick? Wait, that wasn't this thread. That wasn't even this board.
