Do they actually make money sitting at the airport for 1 hour just to pickup a ride? Seems every time i drive by there, there is atleast 100 cabbies waiting around.

out of the 100 new wheelchair accessible cabs, only about 15 actually pick up wheelchair customers. for the other 75 its just a scam these guys used to get a subsidized vehicle.

I was they would deregulate it, the taxi commission doesn't do F-all anyways.

Yeah, it does...those guys all over town like to congregate.
When we used to live downtown, they'd also line up 4 or 5 cabs at a time at the Macs at 8st and 15 Ave, and the Macs at 12 Ave and 11st.

Even downtown on 2nd St and 8th Ave I've had to go the 3rd taxi because the first two guys in line are busy babbling away as I stood there for 20 seconds.

I agree, all this kirfuffle trying to limit the number of cabs down is only for the benefit of the licence holders and hurts everyone else. It's bad public policy.

Despite what the "it's either back or white crowd" says more transportation options will equal less congested roads, safer roads with fewer drunks, and better utility for all citizens.

Sober and plowed are two ends of a large specturm, I don't think anyone who would drive completely fata'd would care if there were more cabs or not and I would agree with them that more cabs wouldn't take them off the road. However, I bet there are plenty of people who after a few drinks who most likely are between .08 and .12, might decide to risk it on a cold night after trying to call a cab or another ride. More cabs would take a lot of these people off the road and provide better safety.
