Meh - I was given tickets and went. His 10 minutes of recollections to his time in the white house and reflections on Afghanistan were quite good. Unfortunately the 45 minutes he spent on pimping the Clinton Global Initiative (ie fundraising) were rather disappointing.

On the eve of his first public address since leaving office, former U.S. president George W. Bush dined on pasta and fruit salad in Calgary's Kensington area Monday.
Bush, three dinner guests and a throng of secret service agents spent nearly two hours in a private room at Osteria de Medici restaurant on 10th Street N. W.
While a small crowd grew outside, intrigued by the heavy police presence throughout Kensington, Bush was a"jovial and friendly"guest inside, chit chatting and posing for photos with staff.

What I really don't get are the protesters. Seriously, what the hell do they think they are trying to influence here?
Just a bunch of whiners who want to go innefectively yell at the glass walls of the Convention Centre.

I was never a fan of George Bush or Cheney or any of their fellow Neo Cons, but I find it ABSOLUTELY WEIRD that a bunch of grown-ups are going to demonstrate across the street from the Convention Centre, and their tools of protest will be a bunch of shoes. The last time I checked Bush is out of office. I'm sure the protest will be lead by the NDP along with others that rarely shower.

Yeah, the protesters I dont get.
He's out of office, the damage is done, and while I find the hurling of footwear to be hilarious good-natured fun at the best of times, Dubya has Ninja dodging skillzz.

It'd be more effective if they threw baby seals at him, that way their protesting two things at once.

If I were in his shoes (no pun intended!), I probably wouldn't either. He is from Texas, and he knows what beef tastes like. I also imagine they do have some grass-fed beef down there too.

People , People, get a grip. Nobody can arrest former President Bush. Your hate towards this man is unbelieveable. Keep your dirty commie hands of this man! 1. He is an American Citizen on an offical visit. 2. He did not commit any crimes in Canada. 3. He did keep americans safe for eight years from the 9/11. 4. America was attackted by the terrorists not Canada. 5. He did not commit any crimes outside of the USA, he was defending his land. 6. He did not fight like many of your commie reporters state "so called war on terror" he was defending his country from a new threat. I would like to see what you would do when attacked? 7. Thanks to his policies Canada was safe too, thanks to certain agreements to defend both countries in case of the threrat from outside. 8. You people need to get out of your shells and get a reality check. The world is a very dangerous place nowadays. 9. You have a too good life and decadent to boot. Trying to understand the enemy is not a deterrant. I can imagine you guys during a home invasion by a gangster: You would probably fix a cup of tea and have a deep conversation trying to undestand him.... 10. Leave the former president Bush alone. Apeasement does not work. It did not work in 1938 when Chamberain talked to Hitler. 11. Waterboarding is an enhanced interrogation procedure. It is not pulling someone's finger nails. When it helps to discover the truth about planned new attacks, then it is OK. How would you get that information from the enemy? Would you again fix a cup of tea and try to have a conversation? You people are insane. Your way is the way to end your civilization.
