I'm sure Turkey would have something to say about it.
Not to mention, wouldn't the US supporting a separate state for the Kurds directly contradict their stance on S. Ossetia?
I would give it a year, 2 max before Turkey invades. The only thing that might cause them to show restraint is how it would affect their EU application.
