I think its been pretty bad for a long long time. Maybe the final segment of the behind the simpson's episode was where they should have ended the show

I seem to remember an episode where they came to Calgary.

Lisa goes to a spelling B in Calgary, and the National Association of Spelling Bee's tries to convince her to throw the contest

Its the same episode where Homer tries to follow the CrustyRib sandwich across America

That's one of the better ones in recent years, purely because it featured guest star the late great "George Plimpton". Anything that dude says is hilarious.

There are still gems.
Sure, maybe not like some of the old ones...but they're still there. And some great lines too.

Don't want to hijack, but Lisa's spelling B in McMahon (ok, not really, but a stadium in calgary) reminds me of one of the signs in Springfield's Baseball stadium:

Springfield Police:
Protecting Springfield from

The only bad ones are from the beginning.

Even a mediocre Simpson's is funny.

Well last nights epsiode was funny and I don;t know what all the talk about season four is about I went back to review some of the episodes and they are nowhere near all that funny that people seem to be making them out to be.
Marge vs. the Monorail.

That episode alone beats out any episode made in the past 5 seasons.

There are some hit and miss ones from that year but overall it's not even comparable to the stuff they air now.

But different strokes for different folks... we don't all share the same sense of humor.

Along with the episode with Hank Scorpio this is my favourite episode.

Marge vs the Monrail was written by Conan O"Brian to boot.

There are certainly some great epsiodes from the fourth season but as a whole I think it is getting a much better rep because of the fact htat it is "older" and therefore was much more fresh.

I love the monorail and scorpio episodes mentioned but there are some bad espisodes in that season as well.

Season 4 is the season where the Simpsons started picking up steam, whereas the previous years (especially years 1 and 2) were just "OK".

Season 4 is the only Simpsons DVD I own so far for this reason. Speaking of which did anyone notice they added French to the packaging for the Season 5 DVD ? I won't buy it because of it.

I thought the best line of the night was "We have drugs that make Regina look like Saskatoon" That was pretty funny.

The French packaging comes in the form of a nice pull-off sticker, leaving the box underneath identical to the American version. I know this because I too was annoyed by it.

Anyway, the best episode ever is "Last Episode to Springfield" from Season Four (the one where the plant goes on strike over the dental plan). You've probably seen it so many times that its brilliance doesn't phase you now, but watch it again and notice how jam-packed it is with hilarity from one end to the other.

Season five also has the best 30 second clip in the show's history, in "Boy Scouts in the Hood":

Homer: Awww...$20...I wanted a peanut.
Homer's brain: $20 can buy many peanuts.
Homer: Explain how!
Homer's brain: Money can be exchanged for goods or services.
Homer: Woo-hoo!
