Why didnt they read your meter? Is it inside? You should take a close look at your bill, it would have said they were estimating. They did nothing illegal either, they simply have to try to read the meter. If they can't get in how is it their fault?

Ok here goes ... confession time ... I've never read a meter before. Is there anything to it?

Strange, I always thought it was illigal for the meter to not be accessible.

Nope just read off the numbers. And if the needle is partway between two numbers, always read the lower number. Not that you are trying to rip them off- but think of a clock instead. If the hour hand is almost at the 6, and the minute hand is is at 11- the time is 5:55- not 6:55.

my meter is inside, and they did do something 'illegal'. it is mandatory to read a meter minimum twice a year, and they have only read it once a year since i moved in. if they can't get in to read the meter, they should call me to ask for a reading, or a convenient time or them to read it, to fulfill their lawfull obligation.

i asked them if they could move it outside so they could perform their reads themselves and they said that it is not something they want to do. they will continue estimating or have me call my reads in monthly to ensure accuracy. i have chosen to read it myself and submit it to them, to make sure i don't get stuck with another huge bill.
i wish you could see the look on my basement tenants faces when i said..."enmax underestimated our bills...you owe me half of it"...not pretty.

I thought enmax's plan was to have automatic recording implemented this year? Or was this for something else?

Who says they did something illegal? How old are you? You are supposed to provide access to your meter since you are taking electricity from their grid, read the documents when you signed up for electrical service. They could have cut you off until you provided access, but since we live in a normal society, they have a system of estimating reads and still providing a bill. Certainly beats no electricity doesn't it? And you are on line complaining? They show up I think every month, some cities it is every few months. They leave a card at my house if my gates are locked or the dog is in the yard. Did they not do that at your place? Is it a condo or a house?

I think you'll have a hard time convincing the EUB that they did something illegal. Maybe you should register your disgust by removing yourself from the grid.

Get yourself one of these.... They keep you warm when you sleep!!! Also look into a windmill. They can also grind mass quantities of grain for you!!
On a side note, my mom lives in Saskatchewan and her utilities are HALF the cost of Albertas. We always seem to take it up the tailpipe.
