Well, just don't do what I did. After graduation, I went back to live with my parents for a while, and while attending one of their parties, I drove home one of their friends, and she seduced me. We had an ongoing thing where we'd meet at a hotel. And my parents kept bugging me to get a job and would wonder what I was doing with my time, and so I spent a lot of time just swimming around under water in our pool in the backyard. What made it complicated was that I actually really liked her daughter, who was sort of pressuring me for a date. So I took her out to a strip club, to try to make her think that I didn't like her. Eventually, I told her that I was having an affair with her mother, and she got predictably pissed off. I found out later she was getting married, and decided I really liked her and didn't want her to marry some other guy, so I ended up driving up to her wedding (except my car died - boy, did all the track that I ran in college come in handy), and interrupted her wedding. Anyway, she ran away with me, and we got on a passing bus. And I don't know, I felt so distant and detached from everything when I was sitting there in the back of the bus with her...
I went to South America for 5 months. One of the best things I ever did. You will probably never get another chance in your life to take a long trip like that.
Is that when you met Che and helped liberate Bolivia? You became known as the Warlord El trouto de pantaloons?

I can't believe no one had suggested this poor soul, should first celebrate with Hookers and Blow. Then join the army, travel the word, kill people annnnnnnd get paid to do it
Well that is a possibility for sure, but I did already live in France for a while for school, and did some traveling around the rest of Europe then! However I woud most definitely go back and do more, since there were a lot of places I never got to.

I'm a girl, hookers and blow and joining the army aren't really at the top of my list. Yet...
You'd be surprised how usefull something like a French degree really is. There are a number of government type jobs you can get.
The trick is to combine your French degree with anotehr usefull skill. After just completing law school, I would much rather have an undergrad in French than the Bio I have. Would open up a lot more opportunities.

This is a good point.
Take off and do your thing. Travel. Be enthused . But whenever you are ready to start working - and who knows, for all you know you could find a job anywhere in the world during your travels - apply to the gov't. Your French will be quite useful then. You don't need to get more schooling; they will do any training they want you to do or have...and there are jobs that your degree would be directly applicable to (e.g. translation services).

The government was definitely something I've looked at a bit, mostly because I think most of their positions require you to be bilingual. My ideal job would definitely be something to do with translation. But I think you're right, travel first... and see what else is out there too!

Well when you are ready, apply then. They have translation services and everything involved. Lots of work I think.
I feel really sorry for the types who went through 13 years of Elementary/Jr High/High School, THEN 4-5 years of University, and then straight into work.
Thats 18 years of GO GO GO GO to get a degree, and then no decompression before jumping into even more GO GO GO GO.
Personally, I think everyone should be required to take a year off after High School to chill out and get some work experience.
I'm in my last semester of school and have a job lined up for when I graduate. The nice thing is that they are letting me pick me start date. So I'm taking about 3 and a half months off to travel SE Asia and Australia/New Zealand when I'm done. Once you start work it'll be hard to take such an extended leave again.
I got a job...then another job..then another..i went job travelling!
Oh and moved to a different city and have done some travelling..short stops though
