I call bull on the 2 dollar cleaning lady. If it's true, you should be ashamed.

There's nothing to be ashamed of in it. That's just the going rate for cleaning ladies here. That's not my fault, and it's not that bad for unskilled work in China. Salaries are just low here. My fiance is an accountant with one of the big 4 accounting firms and makes about $9,000/year here. There are a hell of a lot of people here, so unless you're a little special or well connected/doing something crooked, you just aren't going to make much as a Chinese employee.

I just checked the conversion, and it's really about 2.21. Feel better?

Edit: I don't mean to be rude if you didn't realize where I live. If you did and still think I should be ashamed, then I would suggest you understand the situation in China better before you get judgmental.

Ha ha! I don't think that's a worry here. Most of the cleaning ladies here are old ladies, as is mine. I don't even want to begin to think about considering what she looks like naked.

My apologies. So funny, because after I shut off the computer last night, it hit me! HE must live in a foreign country!! I should have known better. My brother in law had maids in Bolivia and Malaysia and Africa and they worked for almost nothing. He would bring back (from Canada) candy and clothes for her kids and cosmetics for her.

No worries. I can imagine how ridiculous and callous it would seem if you were thinking of me as doing that in a Canadian context. No offense taken.

We have had a series of cleaning ladies, all from referrals from friends. They have all been from the filipino community and I felt shame at how hard they worked. We paid about $80 for a cleaning and would often have to ask them to leave after four hours as they would not stop until they felt it was clean to their standards. At the risk of profiling, I would ask people that have cleaning ladies or nannies if they can recommend someone. My understanding is that there is quite a supportive community and the ladies all either share rent in a house or get together in their off hours.

(I am having guilt over this post. Is that wrong? Am I wrong to refer to a group, even in a positive way? I am so confused. What if I refer to them as African American Filipino Canadians? Ahhhh. That feels better.)

Zarathustra was his name, and calgaryfantasymaids.com was his (apparently now failed) game...

Maybe if you didn't smoke so much weed you wouldn't be so lazy.

Make sure you get someone whose going to be careful with your stuff. I got a cleaning service once and found a nice scratch on the bezzle of my new (at the time) tv. Really annoying particularly after I specifically mentioned that they be careful around that stuff. Also little things were missing like the puck on my Kipper McFarlane figure, probably got sucked up into the vacuum...stuff getting shuffled around where it wasn't before...just little things they didn't care about but bothered me.

But I think its worth getting a cleaning service once in a while, especially if you're a single guy. They do a heck of a better job than I ever would.

I try to stay on top of it but it seems no matter how much I try I never have enough time to do a clean that I am happy with.

Any thoughts?
I'd look for this and wouldn't give a sh*t if she stole my loose change.

Thanks for your awesome input. Do you just wait for posts of mine so you can chime in about weed smoking?

Maybe you should take up weed smoking since it's clear you need something else to take your mind off following me around a message board.

You must be the most motivated, succussful person on this board the way you talk. I'd also assume you have millions in the bank and just time to spare to give your lectures about a subject you know little about. Just sad!
