Ruan Thai on 11th is good too, and it's off on it's own far away from evil Chinatown.
I'm surprised your mom will go to Chili Club on 11th, she's knows there is the trifecta of evil in that strip mall that caters to all sorts of "bad people": Crack Mac's, liquor store, and cheap pizza.
I mostly kid, but I used to work right above it on the second floor of the mall and saw all kinds of things...though I don't recall seeing any guns...

Thai Boat does suck... The food was mediocre at best... the prices are way over what it should be... I recommend not going there.

I've eaten there and really enjoyed it. Doesn't look like a lot from the outside, but the inside is quite nice and the people that run it are very nice. The food was good as well (I really do like Thai food, so I tend to think that a lot of the restaurants in the thread are good!).
One sort of embarassing moment was when the waitress was taking our order, turned to me and asked "Your dink?". I was very surprised...but then realised she wasn't offering anything other than a cup of tea!

I really like this place. Good food plus its really clean and has great service especially if you compare it to other places in the neighbourhood.
Im guessing its the owner thats in there helping out with service - him and his help are always very friendly.
Highly recommend.

IF you ever forced to go to Edmonton (god Forbid) the Thai valley grill at whitemud crossing is the best thai food I have tasted outside of Thailand.

I took Thai cooking lessons, and I asked my instructor what he considers is the best place to go for Thai food in Calgary.
Bangkok Noi Thai is the one he recommended.
Also the Thai Boat, I believe up on 32 Ave NE.
And I forget the name, close to where Super S Drugs used to be in the 14st SW area.

I'm an old hand at this, but I haven't had better Thai food than Thai Sa-On, and that includes Tokyo.
Never been to Chili Club (I've been away for a few years) but it would have to be damn good to be best Thai in Calgary if it eclipses Thai Sa-On.
Mind you, five years is a long time so things might have changed. And from local friends who are still about, I've heard good things about Noi Thai, as my untested backup...

Once you've been to Thailand, you can never find Thai food back here that compares.

Thai Boats food was very good, but wayyy too expensive for what you get. After spending about 35 a person for food alone, we were still hungry when we left. And we are all small women. My husband would have to eat 80 dollars worth there to feel satisfied.

Thai Bistro is the BEST thai restaurant in Calgary. We've been to Thailand twice and the food at Thai Bistro compares very well to the food in Thailand.
The Tom Yum soup, the rice rolls and the Pad Bai Gra Prow are my favourites. The mango salad is also excellent. You can't beat the prices and service. They also now deliver for small charge. We've tried most of the other Thai restaurants in Calgary, but Thai Bistro beats then all for flavour, price and service.

I don't know much about Thai in Calgary, but I would certainly disagree with that for Vancouver. I didn't find food in Thailand to be much better than Thai food in Vancouver. Maybe once you've had Thai in Vancouver, you'll have Thai food that compares back home...
