You can download tv shows from sites like Pirate Bay (any other good one's out there). You can then watch it on your computer or play it through your xbox360 if you have it networked.

Yeah, if I happen to miss a show or miss setting a timer, I'll grab it via bittorrent and watch. I grab the 720p posting (mkv file) and watch on my widescreen HD computer setup. It's pretty sweet.

The other thing is that you can add an external hard drive to your PVR. If you get the movie channels you can record and store a huge library of HD movies over time.

And Ken, I'm going to have to figure out how to record previous material on Bell... any tips? I tried this the other day and it didn't work for me...

I feel like I'm a little late and simply "piling on" but get the PVR!
As for the Shaw box with HDMI (3416) it only comes with an HDMI cable and not component cables like may be listed on their site. Quality is debatable but cable clutter is a no brainer!

PVR = awesome.
I am no longer dominated by network television. I record everything I want and then watch it when I feel like it, skipping commercials.

My wife gave me incredible amounts of grief over getting one. I was an early adopter so it cost something like $700. Initially her impression was "ok that is kinda cool, but you're still a moron".
Then one night she was watching a Senators/Flyers game at her parents house who did not have a pvt (The game in question was the one where RJ Umberger got knocked the F out). Incredible game. She made popcorn for overtime. She smelled her popcorn burning, realized she couldn't pause the tv so she ran to the kitchen. Didn't matter though, as soon as she left the room somebody scored and all she got was an instant replay and burned popcorn. She has adored the pvr ever since.
Long story short, the PVR is possibly the greatest tv invention since tv itself. Don't even hesitate. I'd still pay $700 for one.

The difference between component and HDMI on digital TV should be minimal, since the digital signal tops out at 480p anyway, which component cables can support. The only question I have at that point is whether or not an HD box will upconvert the signal a bit more, making HDMI more clear.

I thought digital signals could go to 1080i or 720p?

Once you go PVR, you never go back.
I struggle to keep my Shaw 160gb pvr at less than 90% full.

I am still waiting for anybody to say.........."Man I wish I didn't buy that PVR. What a waste of money." I do not know one single person that has regretted the decision to buy/rent a PVR. The only regret a few people have is that they didn't buy a HD PVR and bought a single tuner SD PVR when they first came out.

+1
I watch all my TV series recordings Saturday morning while my wife and baby are still sleeping.
Not to mention being able to start watching a hockey game an hour late and be able to FF through all intermissions/commericals

Yep this was just changed recently. I think I was one of the last ones to have a box from out of market swapped into the system and then it had to be replaced and because the guy told me it wouldnt be a problem they gave me a new 3416 for a 6410 or 6416 cant remember exactly
