Nice, I would do a lot of things, but I wouldn't screw with a persons xbox.

My Xbox's have had major problems, but the latest one has lasted two plus years. And I would take more issues versus only having a PS3...the 360 is a much better video game system.
|
That's pretty much it, people will put up with sending the console back for repair because it is the better gaming system. In the end it only takes 3 weeks and it's free, no big deal.
I have both the PS3 and a 360, I've completely stopped playing games on the PS3 and only use it to watch BluRays now.

I got the RROD about a month ago, looked on the back of the xbox and seen the manufacture date was over 3 years ago. Never bothered to even phone M$, I just bit the bullet and went and bought one of the arcade versions.

If you still have the old one you should still try. I bet they send you a new one. You could sell it.

I still use my PS3, only because of where we have it in my house. Otherwise, there is very little reason.
I think I will log in to Gears right now...

Bumping an old thread.
I didn't get the full red ring, but only half of the circle. More specifically, the left half.
I read a couple articles online to try and find out some information, but all I could find was things telling me that my xbox was over heated. They said just shut it off for a while and turn it back on.
The problem with that diagnosis is that I had JUST turned it on and started playing. I tried what they said and now it goes right to that half red ring, so it seems it's not an overheating issue.
Anyone had this problem?
Edit: also of note was that I noticed the fan was MUCH louder than usual. But again, how hot could it have been in 2 minutes of being turned on? And it's in a hard surface in a well ventilated area.

Your xbox is hooped like my brothers. He can't play it anymore because he always gets the 2 rings, like you, and it overheats in minutes. The problem is that the Microsoft 3 year warranty only covers the 3 red lights, nothing else.
If your past your 1 year anthing warranty then do the following, if your in the 1 year warranty for anything, phone now.
Your xbox is broken, and my suggestion is to cook it until it gives you 3 red lights so you can send it in. By cook it I mean leave it on with a towel on for like 4 hours so it fries everything inside. Something is bound to go wrong inside to give you the lights.
To put it simply, your xbox is broken and your hooped from warranty with two lights, and you can't fix it.

Ya, I bought it in November of 07, so I've had it about a year and a half.
I guess I will have to hope I get the 3 rings.
%^&$ing Xbox.

OK, I'm sure I'm late to this party, but...

I think next generation I may go with xbox. I would imagine after the headaches and $$ this has cost, I bet the next system is going to be an effin' tank.

I wouldnt count on it, this is microsoft youre talking about.
The same company that will release software/hardware it knows isnt completely up to snuff just to get it out in the market and then try to patch it as necessary
In fact, in the long run, all the very public problems that have been encoutered with Xbox 360 may ultimately hurt microsoft next gen as people may be a little more wary about getting the system at launch. There are always bound to be the odd problem here and there, but when that failure rate gets reported as anywhere from 16% to as high as 68%, thats obscenely high

I will give Microsoft credit, they haven't screwed over me or anyone I know when it comes to the RROD. Just three weeks to replace it for free.

Yes they have.
You paid several hundred dollars for a product that has a 30 percent failure rate.
They are screwing you over.
That was enough for me to spend the extra couple hundred bucks for a ps3 that I have had 0 problem with, and have had 0 of the costs externalized on to me.
I simply do not understand why someone would knowingly spend several hundred dollars on something that they know will fail on them at some point, and that it is likely to fail within the first year of purchase.
'Well, they replaced it'
You're GD right they did. That is the least they could do. Did they refund your month of xbox live that you missed out on? Did they give you any kind of apology incentive or gratuity?
Feels like I am piling on, so, sorry, but would you buy a TV that doesn't turn on 30 percent of the time, or a bed that breaks 30 percent of the time?

mine broke and they said that my hard drive was the hardware malfunction, so they fixed it and now I have a quieter one, too bad it sucks even more because every new game i get it says "Game is unreadable, please clean with soft cloth etc." So I have to save them to my 20 gig harddrive which can only hold two game :\
If I get a 120 gig harddrive is there any way to move my old stuff from the 20gig to the new one?
and for your question, if you're still in warranty (which you can check online with your xbox serial number) get it fixed, after you get it fixed you're under warranty for another year so hopefully you get a rrod once a year so you never have to buy a new one lol

If you buy a 120 gig drive, you can order a drive transfer kit from MS to move all your data.
