Did they at least say "Merry Christmas"?

Same thing could have happened if someone had offered you a dollar before you actually returned the cart

I would stay away from Malborough. Sketchy characters there.

When I was in school I did a short documentary on businesses that are open all night - and the people that shop there. I hit a 24 hour gym, grocery store, car wash, copy place, diner...it was amazing that there were people in all those places even at like 3 am. Fascinating stuff.

I rolled into the same Wal-Mart at about 7pm (yes, I missed the first period of the game...but stocking stuffers call!). (As an aside, sorry to ruin your thoughts about Santa here Locke).

It was busy, but it took me only an hour or so, and the line was only 4 people deep!

What I really hate about Wal-Mart is that it always seems they have only enough cashiers working so that there are big lines. I could go at 7:30 in the morning and there will be a line because they'll have one half-asleep cashier running things through in slow motion.

I went to one of their new Supercenters that is like a grocery store attached to a regular Wal-Mart and it was brutal. Had a buggy full of groceries, went to the front of the store and there a queueing system set up for people with something like 8 items or less, a whole bunch of self-serve checkout stations that I can't stand and one regular cash with about a dozen people in line. I said to hell with it, left the groceries and got what I needed elsewhere.

Haha, I saw a guy do that the other day too but he kicked his cart into the clothing section and stormed off grumbling. I don't really get the point if you had to pick something up, you already spent the time in the store why not just suck it up and wait then take your business elsewhere the next time. This is not directed at you but this guys wife looked upset and embarassed about the whole situation. Plus it's freaking christmas, he's just going to hit the same lines elsewhere.

I can't imagine the Lethbridge Wal-Marts being so quiet last couple of nights though.
wait, wait, wait. There is more than one wal-mart in Lethbridge?

I only know and go to the one on the south side of town (by costco and M&M meat shop). I live on the west side, would Wal-mart North be more convenient for me?

In my case it was on a weekday afternoon in October. If it was this time of year, I'd understand if there were lines but to have 1 freaking regular cashier just bothered me. I had plenty of free time that afternoon and knew that I was going to end up spending more time elsewhere then I would waiting in line here but it just really bothered me that they were essentially forcing people to use the self-scanning stations.

Man, I love those self-scanning devices. Working in retail in my younger years, as with my gf, we can fly through there. I hate the slow ass cashiers (safeway is bad too) and we can just bag and go...

Self scanners are great if you've only got a few items. If I have a cart full of things, I'll take the human cashier. Having used them many times, I can get through the self scanner faster at Safeway then going through the regular lines.

Ha, Wal-Mart, my life is much happier when I don't have to walk in those doors. I'm usually an even-keeled guy, but Wal-Mart is infuriating.

I encountered a similar situation a few weeks ago. I asked if there were more cashiers and was told 3 phoned in sick that morning.

I hate Wal-Mart at the best of times. I've been in a WM store once in the last few years, and I didn't have a lot of choice. I wore my hat down low so that no one I know would see me. I took a shower afterward. Shopping at a store I hate after midnight just before Christmas just adds to the misery. No thanks, I'd rather be sleeping. I don't understand why so many people leave this to the last minute. Do your shopping in early December and it's way easier.

The same thing has happened to me, once at Superstore for a buck and a couple of times at Safeway for quarters. Can someone tell me how people get those carts without putting a quarter in? Not that I want to learn how to rip folks off, but I'm curious.

You have to pay for shopping carts? How does that work?

Not so much you have to pay for them as you have to put a deposit in for them. You put the coin in, and get it back out when you return the cart.
