I wouldn't say expert. But I would say that the weather patterns and the whole town can be described as worst possible scenario.

Heritage Classic ... Edmonton ... 2003.

We were in whatever row is about 3 rows from the top of that garbage stadium. My buddy decided to walk throughout the building during the intermissions to try and keep warm. I felt oddly comfortable where I was so I elected to just sit there. By the time it was all said and done (as were the oilers - haha) I had been sitting in one plastic chair for around 3-4 hours.

When it was time to leave I stood up and started to realize that I may have damaged my body. Walking down the stairs I started feeling nauseated and a little dizzy. By the time I reached the bottom it felt like I'd run up the stairs ... i was out of breath for some reason. Standing around waiting for a bus I was certain I was going to vomit. It was absolutely terrible.

Then again that almost always happens when I'm in edmonton, so perhaps the cold had little to do with it.

I wasn't happy about it, but I never brought it up. I'm not really his responsibility. It would have been nice had he done it, but oh well... I met some awesome cabbies who drove me around all night...

-63 with the windchill, snowboarding at Castle Mountain in Pincher Creek. Each run required 2 sets of goggles, and by the time you got down you had to go straight into the lodge. It was ridiculous.Every single person I was with got frostbite of some variety.

50cms overnight though, so it was SORTA worth it.

I was in Tuk and Inuvik for a month a few years ago. Pretty cold up there. -50 plus windchill was pretty common. Since I was decked out in arctic gear, it wasn't so bad. Not as bad as my camping trip from hell where I slept on rocks on the river bank while it snowed, then walked through the river first thing in the morning. That was probably the coldest I've ever been.
I contend that you've not been truly cold until you've pissed on your own feet to warm them up.

stupidly hike-a-biking in May through a few kilometres of snow at the top of the pass on the Big Elbow trail. Walking through the melting snow pack for more than an hour froze my feet badly. It was months before my big toes were back to normal.

When I was 8 or 9 my Dad was driving us from my Mom's house in Colorado to Kalispell for Christmas. Car broke down between Dillon and Butte. -59F. Not a good night.

Fort McMurray winters are pretty cold. Anything below minus forty amplifies sound, so when nothing is moving you get an eerie quiet (hard to explain). And there's rarely wind, so all the steam from furnaces travels straight up, very neat sight.

We played many street hockey games with a frozen tennis ball. We'd switch them every 5 minutes or so when they'd get too solid. I had half a dozen of them at a time thawing on the register near the front door of the house.

Tough call for me. Either hiking over the Chilkoot Pass on August 15th during a sleet/snow storm (that was ridiculously horrible and awesome at the same time!), or a drive from Lethbridge to Waterton with no heater. It was about -35 and we left expecting that the heater was working. In that drive on the way home my friend and I were signing all the songs we could think of with the word "fire" in them to try to trick ourselves into being warm.

Got home and still went to a hockey game though....so we lived.

As a wee lad i fell through the ice on a pond at grandpa's farm. Luckily my brother was with me as helped pull me out. It was a very cold walk back to the farm house to warm up.

I once drove home from a party (where I most definitely shouldn't have been driving home from) when I hit the ditch...being as I thought I was going right back I left my jacket, toque and cell phone at my buddy's place. Thing is my sister and I decided to walk home. Which wouldn't have been bad except for the fact that it was minus forty out. Well we made it a mile down the road and I couldn't feel my hands or my feet, and I couldn't walk anymore. So we broke a window in our neighbour's house and waited for my parents to show up...spent the night in the hospital suffering from hypothermia...not a good night.

Fort McMurray - it was -50 something plus windchill on Halloween! I wasn't allowed to go out very far but just going to my neighbours house was FREEZING. Now Ive wimped out and this 30 degree weather (0ish celcius) and I have my heater on and my toes are cold. Wimpy wimpy californians

Heritage Classic in Edmonton - it was a COLD day and you were pretty much out there for 6 hours or more straight so you just got colder and colder and colder. Worst was the toes - ugh.

But still a good time.
