If your looking for a kensington Hangout Sam's Deli off of Kensington Road is one of the best dive bars (easy going, no pressure of popum and circumstance). The Hopinbrew pub is also a good place off of 1st street (as long as you don't go on a night when the emo kids take over).
Second the hopinbrew if your looking for a unique place to drink. You could almost just stay home though and invite a bunch of wrist cutters over to your house and it would be pretty similar atmospher on some nights.

Poor guy, asked for the best bar and everyone has had a different answer. Good luck choosing.

I'm kind of surprised that no one mentioned Melrose. I personally don't like the place but it's always packed and they have a ton of TV's. Drink prices are probably a little cheaper than FC as well. Seems like there is a bit of a love/hate with that place.

For me, I say the Last Straw in Tuscany, simply because it is the only bar that is within easy walking (and reasonable stumbling home) distance. However, the fact that their nachos plate goes for +$20 takes them out of the running.

It used to be Harry's Pub until it was sold, I still miss the place.

The Point and Feather eh? I used to love that place. They would pile the nachos so freaking high it was awesome! Spent many a good time in that place back in the early to mid 90's. Second favorite place to drink after any place with a Newfoundlander!

Is the Carriage house still on Macleod trail? At least I think that's what it was called. Good place to grab a cold flagon of ale and a bucket of peanuts.

I am a big fan of Moose McGuires in the Stadium shopping centre.

Downtown :

1410 a huge selection of imported Pints and great food. Kinda small though.

Ship and Anchor : Great beer selection and food. Sometimes too busy though. No better place in the summer to sit on the patio and watch the "scenery"

Wildwood: Hepatitiis Scare is over, and the Food there is wonderful... Their on brewery beer is pretty hit and miss though.

Rose and Crown: On the Weekend this place is hopping and the girls are out.... a great place....

South :

Kilt and Caber : I have only been there a couple times (too damn far away from me) but i have always enjoyed it there.

Point and Feather : Many of night spent playing NTN and knocking back 5.95 point Pints of Rickards White... Food is hit and miss though.

North

Loco Lous: Never a bad time there if you are there to party... but the food is not too good.

Jamiesons: After Stamps games i prefer this place over the Kilkenny... Nicer staff and better food..

Calgarys best pubs ... Dixons, Limericks, Seanachie, Killkenny, The Joyce on 4th, Donegal..... Always good for atmosphere and a Pint...... but their Food has gone downhill in a hurry..

The Cat and Fiddle has long been my favourite pub in Calgary. Good prices, their food has gotten much better lately, great atmosphere without a drop of pretentiousnss.

However, as the OP asked for a bar that was similar to Flames Central which is really the opposite of everything on that list, I would have to say... I dunno... Melrose?

I'm gonna throw one in for Moose McGuire's. Pretty cheap beer, and good lookin waitresses.
They got rid of the free peanuts though...

If you want something similar to Flames Central, I would have to say The Flight Deck. Has a TV everywhere you can think of, really nice place. A fairly pricey place (for food).

Ahhh, so you are a closet emo kid. That makes SO much more sense....

If you are in the North, Flight Deck is pretty good. 100 different types of beer as well, if you are feeling adventerous.
On Stephen Avenue, I think the Unicorn fits the bill.

and that is the beauty of it.......it reminds me of a small pub i used to go to in Winnipeg that was round the corner from the Royal Albert (which BTW, is a kick ass bar, the bounce had one arm!)

Your local neighborhood boozer.

That way you can stagger home after you get plastered... getting a cab at 2:30 in the morning can be a real bitch some times.

Moose Maguires is another good one. I love the Den, but it totally sucks for sports, so when stuck on or around campus Moose's was the destination of choice.

Limerick's is also pretty good for the fairly wealthy.

I hit the Black Sheep on Elbow Drive for wings fairly regularly.
