Shannon Keane, 38, of Cary, who arrived with her son, Miles, 13, at midnight, said she was buying only one item today: an iPod for her son.

“He really wanted this one thing,” Ms. Keane said. “So we're here for this one thing.”

Ms. Keane, who was recently laid off from her job at an insurance company, said she was on a budget this year because her unemployment checks were also helping support family in Colorado.
Put this woman in the FAIL category!

Why is she bringing her son with her, if it's a Christmas present???

Some lady who is 8 months pregnant also got hurt in the Wal-Mart stampede, but she will be okay. To me that is pure stupidity as well, putting yourself in a situation like that when you are 8 months pregnant anyway.

More sad news from this same Wal-Mart.

Meanwhile, shopper Jessica Keyes said she miscarried after being knocked down by her fellow shoppers at the same Wal-Mart.

Like most have already said, that article is quite sad. You'd think the primary focus would be the death and the injuries to several shoppers, not the possible savings/deals.

Walmart shoppers are a disturbing breed really. I only worked at Walmart once during the Christmas season, but I was never been treated as poorly as I was by those shoppers the whole time I worked there. It was a test of willpower everyday not to unleash on someone. And witnessing the hatred people spewed at one each other and the fighting was just disgusting.

That's so sad that she miscarried. I wonder if there is the potential for a lawsuit here?

I would say there's definitely grounds for a lawsuit. Wal-Mart should provide a safe environment by which to shop or work without miscarrying or dying.

I agree 100%. Wal-Mart and others intentionally create these atmospheres to increase sales. They have enough experience with these types of things that they should be able to come up with a safe system of letting people in.

People were in a line, but based on the above video, it seems that the issue was there was no security on hand, just Walmart workers trying to keep hundreds of people at bay.

exactly. I mean something like not letting everyone in at one time. Maybe something like only 50 people are allowed in and for every person who leaves another person is let in.

Yeah, they're pretty much negligent. I would think that that lady who lost her baby is having injury lawyers beating the door down. Talk about open and shut.

I don't think the crowd would have allowed for only having 50 people in at a time, given they apparently rushed the doors and broke them, if you believe the original articles. When you get that many people foaming at the mouths for their personal savings... not much is going to control them, especially not a handful of poor little Walmart employees.

yeah I suppose that's true, either way its despicable. I can't believe not ONE person in the whole group of "people" stopped to help that guy up.

I'm hoping the group of people who trampled that young man have a conscience and that the death haunts them for the rest of thier effing lives.

Pretty disturbing.

It shows how out of tune people have become thanks to consumer culture having become what it is..Its amazing how easy it is to create a frenzy. People really are sheep.
