Letterman vs. Kidman... Say Whaaa?

I don't see what's so bad about that. A little awkward, but nothing worth the hype. I think she made it more awkward then it needed to be. She could have just played along a bit and it would have been a status quo talk show interview.

I remember watching Cindy Crawford on Letterman awhile ago and she came out with really dark eye makeup. She started talking about some BS work trip she went on overseas and all of a sudden Dave asks, so when does the swelling in your eyes go down?

She got up and left the stage instantly. Hilarious.

Also, Dick Assman and him calling Paul some stupid name and Paul getting really upset about it every night for a month or two. .

I miss the Larry Sanders Show. Can't believe its not repeating on anyone of the 200 channels we have now.

Letterman was a lot funnier pre-CBS, and Leno was funny early on in his hosting, and when he guest hosted for Carson way back when...both seem to go through the motions as their entering their twilight, although I still prefer Leno and think he's a little less high on himself then is Letterman, although its rare that I watch either.

Leno's a much more nice easy going, interesting guy outside of the show, whereas Letterman is a weird recluse.

Kidman did seem off. I thought she looked great but I think she was a little concerned about Dave's reputation. When he is into it he can be quite dismissive and make the guest look bad. I don't think he was trying to but he ran with it.

I like him a lot.

The Crispin thing was way weird. I actually remember watching it. If it was a gag there is no way Dave walks away. He would play it up.

Anyone know his back story? Is he a psycho?

I had that episode on vhs (yea, I'm old) for a while, and watched it a few times. He was supposed to be the lead guest, and they kept putting all the other guests on instead, and making excuses about him not being there, or there being other problems. Finally they put him on with about five minutes left in the show, and you could see right away he was messed up on something. After the interview they just ended the show about two minutes early.

There was a bit of discussion about it on some talk shows at the time, and I remember a story being floated that he was afraid to fly, and on the plane to NY to do Letterman he supposedly did a bunch of drugs (probably coke, since it was the drug of choice for celebs in the 80's) in the airplane bathroom to calm himself down. Didn't work

I don't know about that, might be PR spin. There had to be a reason they promoted him as the first guest, then kept bumping him, unless they were trying to dissuade him from doing his weird act. But it isn't beyond the realm of possibility that it was all a stunt, something in the vein of Andy Kaufman. But pretty sure the hair was real, not a wig, as he looked pretty much the same in River's Edge. But he does strike me as the type of person who would/could play weirdness up for publicity, so who knows?

I didn't think it was any big deal.

To be honest, I felt like Kidman made Letterman a little nervous, so the nervous energy was just all over the show. She was nervous about the appearance, and was made more nervous by talking about people close to her. She alone is not too blame.
