Ya, that combo in any kind of excess is deadly ... it's a good thing you're more responsible than I was and pointed that out. I don't think a single dose of that combo is going to kill you though, which is what I meant. I've taken alcohol and Tylenol IIIs together a few times in my life when I had back pain so bad I could barely breathe, but never a lot at any one time. And no, I don't have liver problems. My wife is an RN and has seen a lot of acetaminophen accidents, both with and without alcohol on board. It takes a lot more than a couple Tylenol IIIs and a shot of scotch to do damage.

I find injuring a toe much more painful than injuring a finger. I've done both so this comes from personal experience.

Definitely put ice on it. I once slammed my son's head in the car door and ice worked on that. (I know, I still feel awful)

If its still really sore tomorrow, you should get an x-ray to make sure everything is really OK.

It's pretty good and purple now. Man, I've haven't sustained many injuries so far in my life, but this is probably the worst pain I've ever felt. Got so bad at one point I felt like puking, then the excruciation gradually subsided. Now it just hurts.
Years ago I had a part-time job where we had to drop our nightly cash deposit into the cash office through this big metal drawer.

So the gal I'm working with slams it while my hand is still in there - thankfully got my whole hand out except for part of one finger which got slammed.

Frickin was seeing spots, felt like I was going to puke and had to sit down. I couldn't believe how much it hurt.

Last night I got pummeled by a larger *cough* butch chick in soccer, she scored on me but not after she knocked me down and made me land on my fingers, which then proceeded to slam backwards. My pointer finger is all demented and purple.. aaaah the pain.

You have the power to legitimatize this thread! Besides, there are a lot of things online that people don't want to see, their prerogative.

Okay - we all know the pain you are feeling is pressure due to inflammation AKA fingeritis....

One of the key this to do is ice and heat.

Ice on your finger and heat at the wrist. It works like a vacuum. The area around the inflammation contracts and the area below (viens take away to the heart) expands. The swelling will dissipate.

If the swelling does not subside by tomorrow my advice is to go to a health food place anf get Arnica tablets made into tissue salts. They instantly dissolve and work very effectively.
I am not a doctor but I played one in a elementary school play an few times.... Any questions feel free to ask. I hope you feel better.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys.

Ice didn't really help. I woke up in the middle of the night because of the pain and had to take two aspirin to help fall asleep. The way it feels this morning I'm pretty sure something is fractured. I'll go to the walk-in later today to have it X-rayed and let you know what happens...

During a family vacation many years ago I slammed the door on my brothers finger. I was inside the car wondering why the hell he was yelling at me so I ignored him.

Your advise is for you to get on the finger? Not sure how that helps, but post pictures...

I agree with the other posters, this is pretty funny. As Woody Allen says "comedy is tragedy, plus time".

You need to releive the pressure under the nail .Heat up a needle and gently push it through the nail and the blood will come out, you'll feel way better.

- It's better that they do that at the clinic than doing it yourself with a red hot needles. It's true though, a bruise underneath the nail bed is one of the causes of the severe pain.
- Tylenol + Whiskey = bad, but it won't kill you if you do it once or twice. The main concern is for chronic drinkers who take tylenol frequently as there is a chemical build up of chemicals that target the liver. I believe the warnings are if you have 3 or more drinks a day, you should consult your doctor on takign tylenol
- It bloody hurts as the tips of your fingers are among the most sensitive part of your body (along with your lips and umm...private parts), and contain a greater distribution of nerve endings

Boo....no time to get the X-ray done today and even after I do it tomorrow, because I went to clinic and not emerg, it'll take 48 hours at least to get the results.
