It would be interesting to see what people can come up with. I'll put my name down.

Hmmm am I really the only one who liked the Cooking category? Nobody has a really great cookbook they'd like to recommend (draft)? Even a cooking concepts book?

I liked it -it could be broad enough to cover any book about food and drink, not just cookbooks. Maybe it could be left aside for a CP Restaurant Draft . . .

I like the cookbook category and I think it should be open to allow for more than just recipe books. I can think of about 20 off the top of my head that people would find interesting.

I'm almost wondering if this category needs a different type of draft.
From what I have experienced, there are very few people who read many different types of books. More often people read a few different genres. I know myself I could probably fit 80% of what I read into 3 categories (as listed).
Remove the wildcard and at the half way point add a mulligan, then every 2nd round everyone had another mulligan. This will let the people with a wide breadth of reading knowledge select from most/all categories, and those, like me, who don't have a wide a breadth, to include a few more from the categories they know better. So in a round with 20 categories, at 10 you get a wildcard, 12 another, and so on. Everyone would still be forced to take 14 different categories, but it would allow lots of flexibility if there is one category where a person could recommend 2 or 3 different options.
That would let people like sadora or FanIn80 to provide extra picks in a category that the rest of us (it appears) knows very little about. If sadora knows 20 good books in the cooking category, it would be a shame (from my point of view) to limit him to just one.
Just a thought

At first i thought I would have a blank in this category. Then I realized I do have one that would fit really well.

I am always looking for good, simple, easy recipe cookbooks, so I am sure I could find something to fill that category. I would love to see what others put in that category as well. Should be very helpful for me and my dreadful cooking.

I'm with Proto, I haven't read a complete book since they made me stay late after school for not handing in my book reports.
But I'm addicted to these Drafts, so I propose an auxiliary draft to troutman's.
Some suggested categories:
1) Playboy magazine articles (pre-1980)
2) Playboy magazine articles (1980-1989)
3) Playboy magazine articles (1990-1999)
*(2000+ excluded. Who reads the magazine anymore when there's a website)
4) Hockey Draft Preview issue
5) Hockey biographies
6) Other sports biographies
7) Chilton Manuals I have loved
8) Dime-store fiction
9) Books my significant other "assigned"
10) Dave Barry humor books
... etc. etc.

*sigh*
I am going to need quite a few mulligans to fill those categories...

I think there are some good ideas here.
Would it also work if people could trade categories? Ex. person x does not read cook books, so trades with person y who does not read science fiction. x can then pick 2 SF and y can pick two food books etc.

I like that idea troutman, because like person y, I can count in on hand the amount of Sci-fi books I've read, all of which would get picked up immediately.

Oh, yeah that's a good idea. In fact, I think that works better than the whole mulligan thing. I imagine some people will try to change as many picks as possible to a particular category.
People have made good points in regards to food/cooking books, so that category should definitely stay in.

I like the idea too, plus it promotes trading and such, which hasn't happened too much in the other drafts.

Perhaps. I hadn't though about that part. You may want to put a limit on the number of a certain category, say no more than 3 of something.
Personally I would hope to get a few ideas of some good examples of these genres to give them another try. There are a few categories I've tried a book or two and haven't like them. But I don't know if that is the genre, boor or author that didn't appeal to me. I couldn't in good conscience recommend a book in those categories. But I would like to try again with a good recommendation.
Another thought.
What if, after the draft is done, instead of voting on a winner, allow each person to give out a few "ooh that is a good one" ("props") to different books. Maybe allow one per category you make a pick in. That way people who don't know about a category would have an idea that Book X is liked by many people. Not that there would be any "bad" pick, but if I know nothing about Graphic Novels, I could have a list of 10-20 to pic from. If I knew that the people in the draft gave more props to one than another then that would be a good first choice. I know from the TV Show draft that there are categories I'm not going to get my first choice in because they were already selected.

Hey I'm in too!!!
And I second trout's idea about trading categories - I read a fairly wide amount of topics but there are some I prefer WAY more than others....
