What tags?

I would still like a neutral rep system that users can use. Just to leave a small comment on the bottom of each post.

I liked the rep system to begin with.....it was a good idea, but its easy to understand why the mods couldn't keep up.

We thought about opening the rep system up, but then people beg for rep from each other, and if we allowed rep comments, that's just one more thing that people will abuse. As evidenced by the crazy tags that were being created tonight.

Oh, no doubt about that.

But some kind of rating system for the long-time users here would be perfect.

Yeah, I agree.. though long time users probably don't really need the recognition.

I've seen a "medals" system plugin but that seems kind of cheezy.

Well, I meant more on the line of only the long-time users could use it. Just a way to allow us to rate posters we think are contributing in good ways.

I you abuse it....you lose it. Type thing.

Just thinking out loud here.

Just my two cents... but I'm completely against any sort of rating system... whether it's rep points or medals or whatever... again, just my feeling on it...

So you're of the opinion that reputation (the real kind, not a system) is enough of a reward for those posters who do put in an effort to post things that really add to the community?

Yeah, I think solid posters are obvious through their posts in discussions on the board.

Any sort of rep system where "pluses" and "minuses" are handed out starts to feel a little like a popularity contest to me.

I'm glad the skill system is gone, but if it were to ever make a comeback, I would really prefer if only positive skill could be given, and there was no negative skill. Calgarypuck is supposed to be something that we go to and enjoy and talk about stuff we enjoy talking about (be it hockey, or otherwise) and there were alot of times that the skill system made it a burden and an annoyance and made it that I didn't want to post anymore. I actually considered leaving CP this past week because of the (debatable) politics of the skill system and just lurked CP.

Positive skill is positive reinforcement and makes posters feel good about their contributions. Negative skill leaves a negative impression on people who are here to try and enjoy talking about what they talk about - despite it being rathur moot given most regulars know what each long time poster is all about; I don't think +/- skill really represented a large segregation of the regulars here anyways, and often, some of the best posters were 2 blue because they were obtuse and brought original posters while some of the worst posters were 2 red because their ideas were often redundent.

Also, I'd really rather posts / users reputation be graded on some sort of global scale as well.

I can guarantee there was no politics behind the skill system. That would imply that discussions happened about who to give skill to more often than others, which didn't happen. I've tried to explain that to you many times. Sure there was variations on how evenly it was applied, but we worked to minimize those; to expect every skill given to be identical every other one is unrealistic when you have different people giving the skill. Like I said before, sometimes I'd give skill based on a pattern of posts, not just one.

Your interpretation of how the system is simply flawed, I'm sorry to say. Unfortunately one tires of repeating one's self.

I like it so far and just noticed skillzorz is gone.

I never did like it. Can we bring back the post count?

Nice smooth-ish transition, don't know how it was behind the scenes, but I didn't even notice except for good things!

Yeah I got a spider definition file to separate those out, I always find it interesting to see.

Good thing they fixed the yahoo spiders, they used to show up like 800 times a day!
