For brother/sister/brother in law just called them up and said basically: we have no money and we know you have no money. no christmas presents this year.

for parents, i'll probably get some construction paper, white glue, macaroni and magic markers and make them some art.

I'm taking my family, My Dad and my Mother in Law on a 7 day Cruise to Mexico in January...

I wrote up a little web application that's pretty much a gift registry. People in my family log on and add gifts to their own wishlist. Then they can go to other people's lists and mark items 'bought' so nobody else goes out and buys the same thing.

Worked wonders for the last five years. Only weak spot is my parents, who only add five or six things to each of their lists, and there's five kids (including in-laws) buying presents for them. Gee, I wonder what you're getting, mom? *sigh*

Mine is almost done so here a few ideas i used when buying mine.

Books and DVD's are a good thing.

Gift certificates to their favourite store.
