My nose always wants me to go through the drive-thru when I go by, but then my colon reminds me of my experience a few years ago.
Its a long story, but lets just say good 'ol Micky Dee's ended up paying my wages for two weeks plus two extra weeks wages for the vacation time I had to use to lie in bed instead of work.

BOY IT MAKES ME FEEL GREAT TO HAVE SUCH HIGH METABOLISM......I can eat what I want, when I want, and never have to worry about gaining weight. I haven't gained any weight in over 4 years and that was after my 'teens. I'm riding the care-free train until this metabolic state slows down and I have to resort to Atkins-style meals like the rest of you average Joes.

Oh god. Don't get me started on the Atkins diet. That is so bad for your liver and kidney's it isn't even funny.

My Dad lost 40 pounds and my Mom 20 pounds doing the Atkins diet. They're in the best shape of their lives, working out regularly and eating healthy. I don't buy that arguement. They are much better off now than 2 years ago. They are far more physically and mentally happy with themselves. I'd say the diet did something right.

Atkins works to get the initial weight off, but it's not good as a long term diet, as eventually all the protein etc causes kidney damage, high cholesterol, etc.

They actually gave you money for bad food?
They gave me money for the virus their food contained, which forced me to install lift-off handles on my toilet for two and a half weeks. Sometimes it really pays to have a best friend who is a lawyer and a brother who is a scientist.
But seriously, I never would have pursued anything if it weren't for the arrogance of the manager and her refusal to even listen to my complaint. I was originally just going to chalk it up to experience, never eat there again and go on my merry way. I woke up one morning and there were all these people around and I felt really funny, like I couldn't move, then I realized I was in a hospital and all my family was around. I guess at some point in the night my inards emptied themselves and when my wife couldn't wake me up, she called the hospital. I guess I was asleep for something like 36 hours and every once in a while I'd sit straight up in bed and start talking jibberish. So, since then, I've had difficulty going to fast food joints and even restaurants.

Anything where you exculed something so stricktly as you do in Atkins isn't good for you in the long run. It's about moderation and exercise.

So, while the sandwiches are intriguing, the fact that they are from McDonalds will keep me from trying them despite the fact that they are giving them away this weekend.
|
Giving them away? You mean the free drink and fries deal?
This weekend you can try the sandwiches for free at McDonalds.
If you buy a sandwich they will throw in fries and a drink at no additional charge.
I just checked McDonalds' Nutrition Calculator (found on their web site) and want to let everyone know that if they think their new sandwiches are a healthier alternative to their burgers you should know that they aren't.
While the total grams of fat may be lower on some sandwiches most are neck and neck in calories with their burgers.
As a matter of fact, the new "Leaning Tower Italian" has 100 more calories than a Big Mac with 630.

While they may have lost weight I have to ask a few questions.
How is their cholesterol? Atkins has a nasty reputation for not being kind to your cholesterol levels.
How long were they on the Atkins Diet? How long has it been since they stopped the Atkins Diet? Have they kept all the weight off or is it creeping back?
Do their eyes have a slight yellow tinge?
My point is that while the Atkins Diet can help a person lose weight it can wreak havoc on the kidneys and liver. It is possible to be unhealthy while being thin.

I'm not going to debate that the atkins diet will help you lose weight. Clearly a lot of people have done it. But I don't think a lot of people understand the risks. Your body needs carbohydrates to break down protein. If you severly limit your carbs while drastically increasing your protein intake your body has to break down the protein some other way, which actually produces some very toxic stuff that your kidneys have to filter out. That's why you can cause severe kidney damage. Like reaper said, there's a difference between being healty and thin. Exercise and a BALANCED might not shed the pounds as quickly, but eventually they will, and you'll be much better in the long run.

Very few problems with McDonalds. Or any Fast Food burger joint. Although visiting is down to maybe once or twice a month, it used to be more. in the teenage years.
Of course, moderation is the key.
I'd had more "gastric" issues with "healthier" restraunts like Mr. Sub.
And sometimes, its not the food, its the way (and by who) its prepared(by).

Jesus Christ. Morgan Spurlock should have interviewed you for that movie.
Ya I've heard a lot about the movie. In fact my lawyer friend saw it in Toronto when he was there for a conference before the movie was widely released and called me right away to tell me about it. I don't think I could watch it though. I know for sure that my wife loves me because man, that was two and a half weeks of hell. What that woman endured.....

To jump into the Aitkins diet discussion, my personal opinion is that it is everything that is wrong with todays society. People need to blaim others for their own faults, and that includes blaming carbohydrates for being overweight. It isn't the fault of the bread or the pasta it is your own damn fault for not eating and exercising in a reasonable, and healthy manner.
Plus the losses appear to be temporary as well, which can be seen when many people go off the diet gaining a huge amount of weight back right away because their bodies can't handle even small levels of carbs.
My personal suggestion is not to try some new fad diet if you want to lose weight, it is just cut out the fast food crap (that includes Subway) and exercise a few times a week. In a couple months I can guarentee that if an idividual sticks with a program they will lose weight.

Atkins works, as proven by my folks. But it only works if you keep at it and living a healthy lifestyle, which they have managed to maintain for quite some time. This includes walking, exercising, eating right, getting good sleep, and all that jazz. I understand it is a fad diet, but they've been on the diet for two years - I'd hardly say that's a fad anyomre, and more of a lifestyle choice. It's a fad for anyone who wants to do it but can't commit.

fad diets are great and everything, but usually in the long run they do more harm then good.
There's only one way of losing weight and keeping it off
Quit stufing your face.
Sensible sized meals, all of the food groups, excercise instead of couch surfing, and a health mental outlook and attitude.
I worry about any diet where the creator had a history of heart problems and was over weight at the time of his death.
