I used to watch for the bands. Nirvana, Pearl Jam, the Black Crowes, Faith No More, the Wallflowers, Soundgarden, Chili Peppers, Fishbone, Tom Petty, Rage Against the Machine.
Kristen Wig is one of the best things to happen to SNL in awhile. The characters she brings (while similar) are something new and something SNL needed.
So glad its getting funny again.
I don't know why, but her Target Cashier character cracks me up like nothing on that show. The one with Justin Timberlake was great--actually he's been awesome on that show when he hosts.
It isn't just you. SNL is getting better. This past episode had 4 top quality sketches - Palin-Biden debate (part of a truly classic series of Palin sketches), the Whalberg sketch, the Mary Poppins one as well as the Lawrence Welk one. On th other hand though, the two weeks before that the opening Palin sketches were the only ones worth watching.
As many have mentioned Kristen Wiig is really becoming a star. She's hilarious.
I like Kristin Wiig, as well, I loved when she used to do the skit where she played one of those totally unaware, high maintenance type chicks, where she thought everyone looked like a rabbit. It was a one trick pony, but I always loved those skits.
Christmas isn't Christmas anymore without watching Two A-Holes Buy a Christmas Tree.
I was in tears thanks to this skit. Weekend Update is a can't miss... and the Mark Wahlberg talks to Animals was pretty good as well. Kirsten Wiig is easily the funniest person on the show, aside from some of the stuff Andy Sanberg pulls out his butt... but I think he's being held back for some reason (possibly "Hot Rod").

The origin of the Wahlberg sketch (Mark talks to a plant in a movie):
God, Mark Whalberg is a dick. No sense of humour about himself at all. It was a very good impression, a funny sketch, wasn't at all mean spirited or anything and he can't take the joke. weak.
He has to be kidding around. That sketch has me on the ground laughing when I first saw it...I have no idea why but it was funny.

I'm sure Marky was joking around and just playing the macho jerk. My youtube is broke, so I can't watch the Kimmel clip you posted. Does it show the end of the interview when he says to Jimmy Kimmel "say hi to your mom."
This has the makings of a Andy/Marky work... There's no way Mark Wahlberg would waste his time on Andy, being a big time movie star and all. I can see Marky going on SNL this weekend, and "Punching" Andy in the nose... and the media will be all over it.
Someone mentioned Andy Kaufman... perfect example. Late night sketch com hasn't had the chaos I could see happening.

The musical guests these days are horrible.
I thought Kings of Leon were great a couple of weeks ago. Whenever its a rapper/pop/hip-hop act they are terrible. But there are still some excellent performances every now and then.
I've been a faithful SNL viewer since the early 90's "glory years". The show has had its ups and downs but the last couple of seasons have been great.
Kristen Wiig and Jason Sudeikis are fantastic performers. Kristen has the best characters and plays them perfectly. Jason has become the new "everyman" - he can play the ordinary guy or the total moron or the ######bag - and does them all well. He also did a hilarious cameo on Conan a couple of weeks ago playing in Ben Folds' band.
Seth Meyers is the head writer now that Tina Fey is gone, and you can see his style in many of the sketches. The show has become a mix of sarcastic and off-the-wall humour which makes it an interesting and unpredictable combination.
My only complaint right now is that they've overplayed the Palin thing. The first time was perfect and absolutely bang-on. Its gone downhill since then, its time to focus on some of the other candidates and issues.
And for the record, I love that skit. I laughed my ass off when I saw Samberg doing that, he had his voice absolutely nailed. I think Samberg's priceless, I'm one of the very few(evidently) that thought Hot Rod was gold.
