I want to go synthetic this time, enough conventional oil.
Get a locktite or grabit socket from canadian tire and that should be able to get it off. If not, you could always hammer in a smaller socket size but you risk damaging the socket forever.

If you do it yourself, at least you gain extra tools... you never know when you'll need them.

Or the cheapest way to do it is look for those dealfinds or groupons that do oil changes. When you take it in just specify you need a new bolt and they might just charge you an extra $5 for the bolt.

lol @ phoning for prices. The point is it is the year 2012 and they can't even put a price on their website. Hell, they don't even have prices at their store (I was there). I have to wait in line, get in to the bay, then talk to the guy about the prices and if I think they are too high, then I just drive away having wasted my time.

Like I said, to some individuals it may seem like a small principle, but as a business student I find that incredibly dumb.

I'll just wear some thick gloves and do it myself.

A chisel and heavy hammer will take off most any stripped bolt.

Avoid Jiffy Lube...
I usually go to Minute Lube and pay $125ish and was floored when Jiffy charged me $50 more.

You want to pay extra for a teenager to finish stripping the plug entirely and causing you to replace your entire oil pan?

Oil changes? My goodness, what an idea. Why didn't I think of that? An oil change!!

Justin, there's four places. There's the Oil Change Hut, that's on third. There's Oil-Change-R-Us, that's on third too. You got Put-Your-Engine-There.... That's on third. Swing Low, Sweet Chariot... Matter of fact, they're all in the same complex; it's the oil change complex on third.

I go to my local mechanic. I will NEVER EVER go to Mr Lube. The last time I went there was in 2010, the kids below stripped my plug and I had a huge oil leak all over my drive way. I went back and found out that the kid was on his first day, yet he did damaged my plug and the extra effort in cleaning up the spill. My mechanic gave me a new plug without replacing the pan..lucky!

I take mine to the Ford Dealership. Charged me $59.99 and that included tire rotation a few eeks ago.

Those fast lube places are a joke. Last time I went the idiot doing the oil change didn't fully tighten the drain plug on the oil pan. Had a pool of oil under vehicle the next morning.

Apollo Muffler on 16th Ave and ~8th St, N.W. Lorie is a great, respectable guy, and--I don't say this often--I trust him completely.

congrats, i beleive you just set the record for worlds most expensive oil change.......even $125 seems very high. I take my vehicles to Advantage ford or the Kal tire near the shop and I am sure I don't pay more than $60 at either place - i beleive they are both using old fashioned oil.

I pay $145 to do my own.

That's with ordering filters online. The one time I had to get one locally in a pinch it was $155.

Hurray for 9.5L oil capacity.....

I used to take my 04 F150 to Nikkon fast lube off across from sait on 16th ave. They always did a good job. The one time they had a "new guy" who put oil all over my freshly cleaned engine bay I took it back the guy was fired and my next oil change was free. Still used their service for another year before I got a new vehicle with free oil changes.

Yeah I think I'm sitting right around there. Why Mobil1 doesn't offer 0-40 in bulk jugs I'll never know.

No, you just get your transmission drained and your crankase filled twice instead.

This drives me nuts. I used to use Amsoil, and the 5L jugs were great for dumping the used oil into.

Now having to pour it into 10 different dinky little containers is a huge PITA. I guess I could use washer fluid jugs or something, but then I have to deal with the empties as well.

Every time I get bored dumping the used oil and accidentally overfill one, then it's time to bring out the saw dust.

I like Country Hills Toyota for oil changes because you can bring your own oil. I buy my own synthetic oil when it is on sale and bring it to Country Hills Toyota and pay them the $18 to change it for me.

I just paid $26.20 for an oil change at Meineke.....including oil/filter, labor, taxes, environmental fee, everything. Talk about cheap! I mean they might've used canola oil, and the car might not be running next week, but at those prices, one can hardly complain.

Canadian Tire has a special on this week end for 29.99 synthetic oil change. I ordered mine by phone for next Wed. as the automotive section is closed on weekends. Canadian Tire has a bad rep but here in my small town I haven't had any problem with them.

Another vote for this place. The owners are great!
