Just a guess, as suicide is usually not reported.

I can definitely confirm that. We've had some pretty high profile/high visibility deaths that have been suicides/suicide attempts and the media won't touch it with a 10 foot pole.

Apparently reports of suicide and copy cat suicides that follow are fairly common, so the media tends to get very careful around them.

It's also out of respect for the families involved.
In general the only suicides that get reported are "murder suicides".

Suicide is so sad to me.
There is always help available for anyone who needs it. Use it, don't be too proud to admit you need to talk to someone. I have been there.
Best wishes to the family, and the CPS.

Bah, I meant a simple "one time a guy jumped from the tallest building downtown during rush hour" type thing. Not "At 8:15 am, thursday sept 5th, ***** Smith commited suicide". He just peaked my interest with the "high profile" part, still you're probably right, maybe it's not something to get into, no matter how vague.

This was my brother. He was a huge Calgary Flames fan and I have a pic at work of him winning a Jersey at one of the games. My sis said she was gonna sneak something Calgary flames in his casket.

I am very sorry for your loss Sad Sister. My wife lost her brother to suicide a few years ago, so we both understand the wide range of feelings survivors of a suicide have to endure. A few of us contributed trinkets to the casket at my brother in law's funeral - a mars bar, a pepsi (his typical breakfast), a pack of cigarettes (ok he wasn't a health nut), and a cd of some of his favorite music (he was a dj - that was my contribution). I don't think there is any need to "sneak" though, everybody deals with their grief differently, and nobody should frown upon your sister for dealing with the loss of her brother in her own way.

This thing called suicide never happened in my family before, I'm just surfing the net trying to find police officers that did that. I was told he was the first in 27 years. What a shame but again, I think there is something to being said that it doesn't really get reported. I can't find jack squat. Besides me being in Vegas when it happened and that tazer cop bad bad day going down. I am struggling with him NEVER been treated for any problems in past but I guess it happened so something musta been there. Maybe time in military peace keeping over seas, maybe something with the stress of the job (but everyone loved him and working with him and he always had a smile) and between 700 - 750 people showed up for the funeral the chaplain said. Oh well. Here I sit, looking for more.

My sympathies go out to you Sad Sister. Although I have been fortunate enough that I haven't had to experienced the death of a loved one through suicide, I am in the law enforcement field. One thing about people in the law enforcement field is that they typically do not like to show weekness. Your brother may have been battling with some problems but it is likely he never told anyone or let on that there were any problems. There was nothing that you could have done to prevent this tragedy.

Thank you jolinar of malkshor. I agree definitely on the comments you just made as Chaplain McInnes who gave us the tour of his District CPS office said exactly that to us just before the funeral service. Grampa was North West Mounted Police back in the early days and lived to be 100 and it just seems totally unreal that I'm cryin' that this great guys is gone at 39 without any warning to the family. But that's life hey? Thanks for your comments tho. It's good to talk really! Not the proper venue I'm sure but - as law enforcement - you probably understand a lot!
