What "healthy" and "get in shape" are depends on your goals.

Are you trying to lose fat, put on muscle mass, get in better shape cardiovascularly, get stronger, what body type are you, etc etc etc....

For simply trying to lose weight, its often as simple as calories in must be less than calories out. So any snacks you have must be low in calories. Vegetables have virtually no calories in them. Fruit has some, lean meat has some, and obviously foods like potato chips, non-diet pop, and pastries have a lot.

A major factor in weight loss is also hydration. You cannot lose weight without being properly hydrated. The biochemical breakdown of fat requires a lot of water.

Some good suggestions in this thread though. Nuts, beef jerky, and lean turkey will provide you with protein and few calories. Studies show that this will decrease your appetite while simultaneously increasing your metabolism.

Make your own protein bars.

1 table spoon peanut butter, 1 table spoon honey, and enough protein powder to thicken it up ( a scoop, give or take, depending on the size of scoop)

Melt the honey and peanut butter in the microwave (or a saucepan if you are doing a larger batch) then mix the powder in and spread out on wax paper or a cookie sheet. Wait for it to cool and cut with a knife.

Perfectly balanced protein, carb and fat snack.

stay away from protein bars! they are loaded with fat..uncooked nuts are very good for you and make you feel full..they trigger something in your brain to make you feel full..so they are also good if you eat a handful 20 mins before your big meal (the homemade ones above sound really good though)

I have a problem snacking in the car. Now I eat one apple then sunflower seeds. That seems to work for me.

Also, Bran Buds in a yogurt in the morning is a way to make yogurt crunchy plus you get a ton of fibre which is beneficial. Also, frozen blueberries in a container then snack at about 10. Mostly thawed by then. Fresh is better but rare in the winter. I also like the jerky.

Someone else on here, 4x4 maybe, said he uses sliced cucumers like nachos and dips them in salsa.
