The biggest loss to Hollywood in quite some time.

He was about 5 weeks older than my Grandpa who passed away about 5 weeks ago. Odd.

Will always love Cool Hand Luke, Road to Perdition and The Sting. Of course Slapshot. But there were some lesser known movies that I really enjoyed like Harry and Son & Absence of Malice.

Great stuff.

Truly an iconic actor. What a character he created in probably the best hockey movie ever.

Not the most original handle I have, but I do like to "use my imagination" and "mess with their f***in' minds" and I guess that's an inspiration of sorts.

I think you really capture the spirit of the handle Reg.

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof was a great show. Very hubba hubba for its time.

Sounded like he was ready for it (well, as ready as you ever are), he took his race car out for a final spin a month ago.
Quote:
Legendary petrolhead Paul Newman took his GT1 Corvette out for a few laps earlier this month as he said goodbye to one of his greatest loves. The actor and former driver is terminally ill with lung cancer and is believed to have just weeks to live. Lime Rock Park race track in Connecticut was close for two hours so that Newman, aged 83, could take his race car out for the last time. His friends, family and race team mechanics were in attendance for Newman’s final race.

Don't know if this was posted anywhere else, but the Syracuse Crunch did a banner raising ceremony to retire Newman's #7 at their home opener. Pretty classy move I thought.

A great tribute to Newman from David Letterman, especially for us gearheads. I followed the exploits of the Newman/Haas team closely during the glory days of the CART series and it was a first class operation.

The whole thing's worth watching, but at around 3:45 in, Dave gets to the story about when Newman called him up one day and talked him into buying a custom Volvo wagon (a 960) with a supercharged Ford V8 underhood. You see, Newman was having one made and was very pumped up about it, so he asked if Dave wanted one, too. And you know, how do you say no to Paul Newman? Dave recounts the whole affair beautifully, and of course, it's also funny

For anyone with Bell HDNET 814 has a special edition of the Ultimate Trailer Show dedicated to Paul Newman.

I watch these shows all the time (there's like 3 different ones on HDNET) and this one has been rather entertaining.

They usually re-air for a few days.
