I'm a little bit sketchy about how the world cup went, it was a while ago but I believe you entered in your name and your passport number for every person you wanted to sit together. They had a lottery and the tickets you won you had the option to accept or decline. I don't remember picking games on certain days or not or if I just clicked on whatever was available. It wasn't confusing at all though, and the ticket prices weren't that bad for the games I went to.
But you had the choice to decline tickets after you were picked for a game and when you got your tickets they had your passport number and name printed on them.
I didn't see the alternates on the Vancouver website, that could work out well then.

Once you add an event to your list you can go into your shopping cart and select alternates or for cheaper seats then you have selected if you don't win the more expensive seats. I haven't looked at it in detail yet though.

So they have cascade down (if you don't get price level 'A', it'll look for 'B'), but not cascade up. Boo-urns. And yeah, having it automatically charge you is a bit of a pain in the butt. I'd prefer to be able to apply for everything, then choose the ones I want (because it depends on what I get), pay for them and let the rest go back in to the ticket pool.

I really want to get up there for a game, but I want to see the USA Mens hockey team, and there's no way to know in advance when they'll be playing. Unless I'm missing something.

Haha you will not get more than you originally wanted. The odds of you winning tickets to any one big event are extremely low. The odds of you winning to multiple are well.... dont even worry about it.

Tomorrow is the last day to put in your ticket request ...
I dont like the way this works. I only have interest in going if I could luck out enough to get Gold Medal Ice Hockey. And, if I got it, I'd like to make a week out of it and take in many other events as well. I'd like to decline all tickets if I dont get gold medal hockey.
Has anyone figured out a way make one event a prerequisite for all others?

Got to love an optimist. I think your odds of getting a gold medal hockey ticket are on par with winning the 6/49... you'd be lucky to get a ticket to ANY hockey game.

I put my request in. Hopefully I don't get all the tickets I requested, because if I do, I'll have to re-mortgage the house...
I'm surprised more people I know didn't try, and it sounds like not to many people on CP tried either. More chances for people like me, I guess!

It is not that I expect to get the gold medal hockey ... but its the event that makes it worth the $6000+ for tickets and 2 weeks of vacation. Without it, I'd rather put the money towards something else.

See, I just couldn't justify spending all this money and risk the chance I'd be watching Russia-Czech republic in the GMG. That and I did want to take in other events to get a fuller experience for by budget. I only went to the ski jump event in 1988 on some really crappy seats and wanted the chance to do more this time. So I went for one of those OEP Local packages that has a qualifying game for mens hockey. Fairly good chance of seeing Canada I figure. Preference is given to OEPs as I recall.

Can I pay for tickets in installments or make a deposit?
No.
How can I ensure that my Visa payment card will be accepted?
If your card is declined for any reason your ticket application will be cancelled without notice.
I suppose it's not a huge issue because if you're the type of person that is trying to buy $5,000 worth of Olympics tickets you'll probably have a $5,000 limit but man wouldn't that just piss you off IF you actually won Gold Medal tickets and your VISA was declined... Or better yet, what if VISA declined you for fear of a stolen card? I know I've had that happen to me before for "odd look purchases".

So has anyone had their VISA charged? I'm still waiting anxiously to see if I won anything...

I looked at my online statements... something has hit my card as the reported "credit remaining" is way lower, but the details of the transaction haven't come through yet. Usually a sign that something has passed. I don't use this card for much else.
You'd think they could make it so that when a successful authorization happens, it auto emails you.... sheeeze.
Either that or Nigerian Princes have gotten a hold of my details...

Yup - looked on VISA online today, I did get a vancouver2010 charge come through. For all the @#$@# technology out there I still don't know what ticket package I ended up with but it appears to be my primary choice (Olympic Experience Package).

WOO HOO!! I think I just got either 2 tix. to both Mens SemiFinal games or 4 tix to one Semi game (at least my math tells me I did). It got posted to my Visa acct. yesterday. I had quite a few "requests" so we'll wait and see.
