update: I did eat the mayo, went to get my skates sharpened, and I now don't feel too good. Although, i didn't feel great when I woke up, so I could just be psyching myself into thinking I feel worse now because of the mayo.

Either way, the best advice in this thread was probably "when in doubt throw it out". Oh well, I just cracked my first beer of the evening, so hopefully some brews will make me feel better in time for my hockey game.

Keep us posted on any new developements. I have a feeling this thread is going to get interesting.

On another note, if nothing bad happens we now have proof that "refrigerate after opening" is just a scam.

I've had mayo left out after 12 hours or so and never felt the affect. Then again, it was the light miracle whip variety.

An ex-girlfriend introduced me to the elementary rule when it comes to food. Think about when you used to leave your lunches in the coat room in elementary school, and when you'd go back to get your lunch.

If it falls within that time frame, you should be safe. Anything past that, and you can still call in sick at work.

EDIT: Elementary rule does not apply to 2 days tho... unless you were that kid that no one liked to talk to... then it totally works.
But remember all the kids who had the "24 hour flu" back in Elementary School? Yeah, we call it food poisoning now.

Well all turned out well. i felt kind of quesey heading into the game, but quickly got over it. So unless I wake up hurling tomorrow then I'd say I've successfully proven that you can leave mayo out for two days and still eat it.

Miracle whip has so many preservatives in it that regardless if you can leave it out for that long, I don't know why you would want to anyway, it's still going to be bad for you in the long run.
