Recent reads include the much-praised 'Dog in the Nighttime', which is excellent for all the reasons mentioned above.
'Sweeter than All the World,' by Rudy Weibe -- kinda long and monotone, an exploration of the history of Weibe's mennonite family.
'Slaughterhouse Five' by Vonnegut -- first Vonnegut I've read, and it was pretty interesting and clever war story.
Currently reading: a collection of Russian gypsy folk tales. When I was in St.Petersburg I was mobbed by gypsy kids. But I don't bear any grudges--the folk-stories are really interesting.
Next up: True History of the Kelly Gang, about famed australian horse thief, Ned Kelly, written from the perspective of the almost illiterate Kelly.

I'm reading 'One World' by Peter Singer right now. It's all about the ethics of globalization and is well written, and a good read.

The Power Broker: Robert Moses and the Fall of New York
by: Robert A. Caro
it's insanely long, and slow to start, but I would say it's worth the read

well it's summer time so I've been doing some baseball reading
just finished Moneyball
I'm half way through 2 books at the moment:
1. Neil Young biography
2. Teammates, about Ted Williams, Dom Dimaggio, Bobby Doerr and Johnny Pesky
with 2 kids I barely ever read actually, but I'm taking a few flights in the next few weeks, so plan on catching up then....

Recently Read:
Choke by Chuck Palahniuk -- I've found you either really like or really dislike Chuck Palahniuk, and I really liked this book
Angels & Demons by Dan Brown -- I liked it more than Da Vinci code which was mainly Information Suspense, "I have something really important to tell you....... Tomorrow!!!" Since I already knew about the whole Da Vinci theory before I read the book so much of the suspense was lost.
The first two novels of the Two Sons Trilogy by Jennifer Fallon -- Fantasy-type novels (Medieval like world, but no magic or monsters). Highly recommended for any Fantasy fans (Scottie)
Just Starting:
Vanishing Country: Is it Too Late to Save Canada? -- Looking at how phenomna such as high amounts of foreign ownership of Canadian companies, movements to adopt the US dollar and integrate militaries etc. are threatining Canadian independance
The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins -- Somehow got a degree in Evolutionary Psychology without reading one of the most influential books

Just finished two Dan Brown books:
"Deception Point" and "Angels & Demons."
Currently I took a chance on the "Area 51" series by Robert Doherty and, surprisingly, am thoroughly enjoying them. I'm on the third book in the series already. If you have any interest at all in UFO's, the pyramids, conspiracies, folklore etc. you might want to check out this series.
