Well what good would hiding the laptop have done anyway?
If people are watching you walk out of Future Shop with a laptop and they see you put it in the car, hidden or not, and you go into another store, would they not still know there's a laptop in the car?
Seems to me there isn't a whole lot she could have done other than take her expensive purchase straight home.

Still how is that FS fault? Even if they posted a big sign by the entrance, most people can't or don't read. If the cashiers told them, then most people just don't hear it or figure its only 10 minutes, it won't happen to me. In the day and age of car alarms, it surprises me that a woman in a gold lexus SUV wouldn't turn hers on for the ten minutes that she was going into another store. She needs to face the fact that she's either stupid or lazy or both.
I'm tellilng you, the government needs to implement the one murder a year rule, where you can kill one stupid person a year with no fear of trial or penalty.
It would certainly strengthen the gene pool.
Judge - "Sir, why did you shoot that woman"
Dude - "Well she put her laptop on the front seat of her car in a parking lot and then went to another store. When she came back to her vehicle the laptop had been stolen"
Judge - "Then what happened"
Dude - "Well then she came back into the store and went to the papers and tried to blame us"
Judge - "And?"
Dude - "Well, I shot her sir"
Judge - "Have you killed anyone else this year"
Dude - "No sir"
Judge - "Good enough for me, your free to go and thanks for performing your civic duty"

If you were to look up the word stuipidity in the dictionary chances are you'd find this womans picture right beside the definition.
Common sense dictates you hide the laptop from sight to prevent such incidents like the above from happening For all intense purposes she should placed a huge note on her car saying her purse and laptop are free to anyone whose willing to smash her car door window.
She should be nominated for a stupidity award.

It seems people today don't want to take responsibility for thier actions. Always looking for a way to blame someone else. Fine example she's teaching her kid.

Celebrated Square Root Day

If this was Calgary, the sun would have a big sympathetic picture of her and her kids looking sad beside the car, then the next day there would be a big happy picture of the kid holding a brand new laptop, with a picture of a representative of some company looking for free good press, smiling beside the mom, with the mom saying her faith in the city has been restored thanks to Mr. so and so from company x.
Actually, it's been awhile since the Suin has done this, look for another one this week....

You're forgetting the part where someone sets up a bank account to collect funds to help this poor woman. TV and radio stations will advertise this

I don't think it's necessarily the fact that she could have easily prevented this. One could take a lot of precautions and still be robbed in a similar way. It's the hypocracy of her accusing Futureshop of not taking precautions, when obviously she took no precautions herself. If she had put the laptop in the trunk, set her car alarm, and taken her purse with her, she may still have been robbed, but she'd be a far more sympathetic victim.

She could take repsonsibility for her actions instead of trying to blame Futureshop and anyone else she could tink of. If i was driving a vehicle that had no trunk i'd probably take it home first myself.

Well good points guys, but I didn't really say she should blame Future Shop. Just sayin' that she's not necessarily stupid for getting the thing stolen. Seems to me it was going to happen one way or the other.
Blaming the third party for this happening? OK, that could be qualified for stupid.

She was actually going shop-LIFTING, she didn't have any more money left after buying a horribly overpriced laptop. Oh, the irony!

You seem to love the word 'stupid'. Do you also know the word 'irony'?
"For all intense purposes" is about on par with "what a looser" and "what a genious".

True, the woman is clearly dumb. But would it be so hard for the people at Future Shop to say "we've had a rash of car break-ins around here, so store this thing safely"?
And this doesn't seem like much of a caper to solve. The store itself should maybe try to figure it out.
But, just so I'm not jumped on for defending the woman... It really is idiotic to leave something like that just sitting in your car.

Obviously, no one should take things that aren't theirs even if it's an easy opportunity. That being said, many criminals are lazy and many crimes are crimes of opportunity. To many thieves it's tough, risky and time consuming to pry open a trunk but it's easy to take a laptop in open sight. This crime was easily preventable.
