Does this map apply to street addresses too? Because that would mean there are two 1-15th Ave SW's on the west edge of the city...

I never knew that the quadrants were so screwy in that part of the city before reading this thread and was wondering the same thing. If you look on Google maps, you'll see that once you get west of Sarcee Trail and north of 17th, the size of "one city block" gets pretty skewed.

17th SW lies at pretty much the same latitude from one side of the city to the other. However, Old Banff Coach Road is 7th Ave SW by Cougar Ridge on the west side of the city, even though it's at the same latitude as 16th Ave N once you get east of Crowchild.

If you zoom in on 14th St SW, and look at the distance from SAIT to 17th Ave SW, then scroll over to 101 St SW, you'll see that the distance from 7th Ave SW to 17th Ave SW at 101st is the same as the distance from 16th N to 17th S in downtown Calgary (3.2km). Somehow the distance of 33 blocks becomes 10 blocks once you get west of Sarcee Trail.

When I lived on the hill I would take Bow to 11th St to 5th Ave to Memorial to Deerfoot.

Given the bridge work that might suck, but if you left your house before 7 you'd be OK.

Today I went Bow, Sarcee, 16, Shag, John Laurie, McKnight. 35 or so minutes.

Way home, McKnight, Edmonton Trial, 16, Sarcee, Bow, 50 minutes.

Need a better way home.

I do believe that at the west edge of the city... it is no longer called 16th avenue, but rather, just Trans Canada highway
