Wow! Giving up already? The Chiefs are going to stink this season that is very obvious. I don't think they will go 0-16. They do play the Raiders twice. Last season before LJ and Huard went down, they were 4-3 and leading the AFC West (which is nothing to really brag about, but they did beat San Diego on the road). They only really got blown out of one game, in Denver. Took the mighty Colts to a last second FG in Indy.
The D is decent enough, line backer could be a weakness. The offense has the biggest question marks. A young inexperienced QB with limited protection is never a good combination. Hopefully Gailey's simple offense will help Croyle along. LJ's production will hinge on the O-line. Bowe is for real and TG is a given. Special teams could be scary. No kick returner, although things couldn't be any worse than last season. The lack of a decent kicker could be a huge problem for an offense that doesn't score a lot of points and has trouble moving the ball.
It will be a long season, but I'm still looking forward to seeing this young team develop.

Jaguars OL Richard collier shot and in critical condition.
Just another example of...nothing ever good happens after midnight outside your own home. One really has to wonder what these guys are thinking...out carousing at 3 AM ona night that is 6 days away from your season opening game.

Well, they may have an interest in seeing an AFC West rival playing.

Makes sense. KC is a divisional rival, and it may be between NE and SD for home field in the AFC Championship game.

In case anyone missed it, Fred Taylor was arrested the other night:
Quote:
According to the report, police were called to Club Cristal around 4 a.m. Saturday to respond to an altercation. When officers arrived, they were advised that there might be firearms in a green Mercedes Benz, Taylor's wife's car. They then ordered Taylor and his friends out of the car, which irritated Jacksonville's all-time leading rusher and ultimately led to his arrest.

I guess that follows Tranny's belief that, "nothing ever good happens after midnight outside your own home. One really has to wonder what these guys are thinking"

Well...I don't think they have any hope of the playoffs. Call it giving up if you like. I'll still watch, and I'll still cheer for them, and I'm not going to go jump some other teams band wagon. But the truth is, that they look like a terrible football team and wins will be few and far between this year. Hopefully the young guys they drafted last year will come along and they can add a few more in the next draft and get back on track to being a team that can actually win a playoff game. Instead of King Carls mediocrity kings of the midwest. But I'm not going to dillusionally sit here and tell Colts/Patriots and Chargers fans that their team better watch out for the Chiefs...I'm more likely to remind them that it wasn't that long ago their teams had to go through the same pains to get the pieces required to be the strong squads they are today.

Former Jags uber WR Jimmy Smith was arrested the same night (they were not together). DUI and marijuana possession.

Expectations are low. So there is no pressure to make the playoffs. All this team needs to do is go out on the field and play their hardest. Take their lumps, and learn from their mistakes. All those years that the Chiefs had a playoff caliber team they had no chance at making or winning the Super Bowl. Herm is trying to build from scratch to make this team a contender, not a pretender.
Know body is asking anybody to expect this squad to dominate (although they did beat the Chargers in San Diego and took Indy to the last second last season). Personally, I think this team will be better than what everyone is predicting. Most think they will be dead last. I think that they could improve their record over last season (which wouldn't take much). I think they may surprise in a few games and will improve down the stretch if they stay healthy.
Regardless, I'm as excited for this Sunday as I have been for any other season opener. Despite the seemingly unsurmountable odds.

As far as the Chiefs go....I understand why so many are writing them off.
One thing that the NFL seemingly always boils down to is the QB position...and Im simply not buying Brodie Croyle or Damon Huard to be anything but mediocre. I think we will see the same thing in many cities though including Green bay, Chicago, Miami, Buffalo etc...
Hope abounds in the first weeks of any season for all teams, but there is little doubt that the Chiefs are going to be in for a rough ride unless someone has a miracle growth at the QB position and lights it up where they never have before.

Just want to see Brady in game action to hopefully put a clamp on all these broken foot/deep bruise rumours. Looking forward to another good season for the Pats... apart from the obvious choices of Brady and Moss, Wilfork needs to stay healthy for the Pats to find success.

No question that offense was pathetic last season. To Croyle's defense he didn't have much help. Huard was a better choice at QB with Croyle's limited experience, but the team needs to look to the future. I think Gailey's a better OC than Solari. He should make things simpler for Brodie and try to play to the Chiefs strength's (which are few and far between). The thing that worries me the most about Brodie is his durability. He is going to take a beating. The fact that he has the physic of an anorexic teenage girl does not help things.

I think the biggest obstacle for the Pats this season will be the opponents defense using head sets to send in defensive plays. Will be interesting to see how they adapt offensively without knowing what coverage the defense will be using in advance.

I think the biggest obstacle for the Pats will be boredom. They might get so tired of crushing their puny opponents that they might actually lose one game again.
Seriously, I think we have to see how well they have adjusted their aging line-backers. That was the biggest weakness last year.
