My favorite telemarketer story was my dad. A few years ago we used to get a ton of calls from a local newspaper. They were insanely persistent, it was nearly impossible to get them to shut up. So one day my dad finds a way to get rid of them.
'Look lady, none of us in this house know how to read, so we don't need your paper.'
There was also the time someone called asking for the person who pays for long distance phone service in our house, and he told them, deadpan, that the guy who did that was dead. The woman who called had no idea what to say, so she gave her condolences and hung up.
And the States' "Do Not Call" list is great, I can't remember the last telemarketer who called my house.
