It is dominated by Europe, but a lot of other countries compete in it. It's not really unlike basketball which is dominated by the U.S. and a few European and South American countries. I would also that the athletic requirements are similar (except for height).
Making fun of it? No. It looks like it could be awesome. I hope they play some of it on TSN or something.

I've never tried it, so I dont think I should be talking....... but from a spectators viewpoint, there does not seem to be any skill required. It looks like a big huge toboggan ride.
Plus at the last winter Olympics, the Canadian guy who medalled was a firefighter from Calgary. Obviously if you have a regular full-time job, the training regime must not be that time consuming or difficult.

Or perhaps athletes get such poor funding that they need full time jobs to scrape by. Firefighting would be a perfect job because you could sit around and work out at work 95% of the time, and your schedule would be in some sort of 4-on 4-off format.
According to the kid who wrote the letter of the day in the Herald this morning the easiest might be Ping Pong. "All you are doing is working your wrist"....
For me, while not physically easy, body types aside; Weight Lifting and Diving seem to be the easiest if you were to actually tain for 4 years you should do well (weight lifting being a longer commitment).
I would say over 50% of the Olympic sports could garner significant standings (top 5)with the right training in 4 years by most people if they are athletic enough to start off with, the problem is who has the time to dedicate them selves to a sport like Pommel Horse and only Pmmel horse for 4 years with financial commitments etc.
If you are big time Olympic supporter dont flame me as this is just my opinion.

As a point of interest, Canada has a participant in fencing who is 50-years old, and won the gold medal for China in 1984. I forget her name, but a pretty neat story nonetheless.
So if a 50-year old can compete, 33 years old is NOTHING!
BTW, I would say Table Tennis would be relatively easy...Just practice with your buddies with a six-pack every night and you're Olympic material!

Hey I took a fencing night class with her 10 years ago when I lived in Edmonton. Cool!

She was in the Montreal Olympics. It think shes been training for awhile.
I am a pretty decent table tennis player and I played against a kid who was world ranked and it's not even funny. It's like I had never even seen a ping pong table in my life.
I dont think people properly appreciate the intense dedication and passion that some people put in to Table Tennis.
I dont think it would be easy at all because Captain Wang Chung from the Chinese Military Table Tennis Team was born with a paddle in his hand and hes been paddling along for his entire 33 years. Hes probably amazing and will destroy your beer swilling and alcohol addled Olympic Table Tennis dreams.
Interpretive Dance maybe? Now there is a nothing medal. Hell, even if you won that you'd still have to lie to people about what event you won it in. When the Gold medal doesnt bestow enough pride to overshadow the event it was won in you know its a shameful endeavor.
Its like winning the Gold medal in the Male Spit-Roast competition. Yeah, you won an Olympic Gold medal, but you did unforgiveable things to get there.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
I just finished watching fencing. What a stupid 'sport'.

I used to fence, and it is a lot tougher than it looks. It requires a good deal of leg strength, core strength, stamina and skill. It is also a very traditional (and noble) event.
Having said that, it can be boring to watch if you are a casual observer, and not in touch with all the nuances etc. Kind of like a lot of Americans trying to watch ice hockey.

Winner. A strict regiment of Italian food and 6 hours of internet porn per day.

Yeah well, there's always some god-send from a foreign country that no one can beat. Them's the breaks.
If I started training for table tennis right now, my goal wouldn't be to face the Amazing Chung; my goal would be to represent Team Canada. Hands down, no matter what place I came in.
