I smoke a fair bit of it now but mostly on weekends and some evenings, and usually if I'm by myself. If I have to work on weekends I'll usually burn one before I go in just cause, well damn them for making me work weekends. The thing for me is that pot is one of those harmless things that has a bad tag simply because previous generations gave it one. I've never found it to be a gateway drug because ever since I smoked my first bowl I've never wanted to try any other drug. I've never found it to be addictive because I can go months without smoking any and not feel a craving for it. I smoke it because I like it and I never smoke enough to get f'd up. I have friends that don't smoke and depending on the situation I'll stay away from it.

Hey Debbie downer does that count for books, movies, games and television too? If you're buying pot from someone, be it from a thug or a hippie, you're enabling them and contributing to their society. I don't smoke much these days, and I probably won't ever smoke regularly again. But I know people that have a hard time chilling out without a toke, and I don't think that they're wasting their time on it. Much like any minor drug it comes down to the people who use it and how they use it.
ricoFlame: It might be illegal, but you can't tell me that every law is a good law. There are times when the laws simply need to be revised to meet the changing needs of the populace. And if people didn't challenge bad laws then bad laws would perpetually exist.

Regard the legal issue I agree that maybe it should be looked at and considered for change. If money was but towards research to see the effects on glaucoma then I'm sure that.........
Wait what has I saying. Oh yeah, I think every once in a while is acceptable I myself may dabble once every other month. I know a lot of people that are more then recreational users and........
Sorry, while I'm thinking of it, did anyone see that new doritos commerical makes me hungry everytime.
Any way, got to go Pizza's here.

I smoke very occasionally and it's a good time. Nothing wrong with using it recreationally IMO.

Although I would support some minimum level of decriminalization, e.g. allowing people to grow a couple plants for personal use, I don't think regular pot use is healthy and I don't buy any of the pro-cannabis B.S..

I think inhaling super heated air (smoke) into your lungs is stupid. I know what it feels like to not be able to breathe normally and I think that lung cancer, emphysema etc. would be one of the worst endgames a person can play in life. I once had a organic chemistry professor explain what superheated air does to lung cells. It was frightening.
That said, I don't look down upon people who smoke pot anymore than I look down on people who smoke cigarettes. Both things repulse me, but I'm not a preachy kinda guy. I have people I am very close to who smoke pot daily.
The problem I have with it is when said person decides that it's ok to bring his 'kit' with him on the fishing trip you've been planning for two weeks and breaks it out in mid trip......a trip in which the said person is NOT driving his own car. The fact that it IS illegal (whether it should be is completely irrelevant) means that the use of it involves risks that a person should really consider before indulging and also before exposing others to those risks with no notice.

if you want to or are working for some of the Fed jobs, you shouldn't or else you won't be able to get or maintain certain levels of security clearances

I used to smoke a ton when I was in school and living with stoner buddies. Now I do it very occasionally because I get a brutal weed hangover, the kind where I can't pronounce my name until about 3 the next day and I am constipated for a week because I ate a large pizza and went straight to bed...
I still like it and I am all for people to do it for recreation, except for those people that do it around kids. There is no excuse for that.

Not meant as a lecture. Take the info below for what it's worth......
A single cannabis joint may cause as much damage to the lungs as five chain-smoked cigarettes, research has found. Medical examinations of cannabis and cigarette smokers found the drug increased specific lung problems, including obstructed airways and hyperinflation, a condition where too much air remains in the lungs when a person exhales.
Smoking one cannabis joint caused damage equivalent to smoking 2.5 to five cigarettes in rapid succession, researchers at the Medical Research Institute of New Zealand found. Doctors who carried out the study believe the damage is linked to the difference in the way cannabis is usually smoked, with users inhaling hard, holding their breath for longer and failing to use filters.

Were they using that crap weed they have in NZ? You need to smoke cannons and cannons of that to get messed up. I bet if they were using some sticky icky BC hydro you would be doing that much damage.

For that one article, which has been repeatedly quoted by anti-drug proponents there are literally 100's that speak the benefits of medicinal and the honest dangers of smoking marijuana.
The facts are that marijuana is not nearly as dangerous as smokes, and of course the vast majority use MJ infrequently in comparison to nicotine smokers.

That is a good question.
The only problem I have with weed is that for me personally, it makes me very antisocial when I smoke it. I actually prefer to smoke it alone - which is odd apparently - and when I do I tend to shut myself off from the rest of the world. The exception to this rule is when I am hammered drunk, I'm still ready to be everyone's best friend even after someone just passed around a gagger that would make Bob Marley blush.

I don't have any philosophical issue with it, I think it smells bad and such, but I'm not going to lecture people about it. It's not for me, but if it's for you, that's for you to decide, but I won't be a part of it.

My opinion is, meh, it's pot. Smoke it if you like. I have some now and then - used to do it more often when I was younger. Some people like to unwind with a couple beers, and I don't see much of a difference.
Like other CPers have already said, like everything, moderation is key.

Good thoughts. I absolutly hate mary jane. I cant stand the way people act when they are high from it and I rather spend the money on my car to go faster or strippers.

They lie about marijuana. Tell you pot-smoking makes you unmotivated. Lie! When you're high, you can do everything you normally do, just as well. You just realize that it's not worth the ing effort. There is a difference. (Bill Hicks)
I know people that have smoked it habitually for years and are totally burned out and useless to talk to because they're so bloody slow.
On the other end of the spectrum I know guys who smoke it all the time and have for years and were successful in school, careers. and generally in life.
It's all what you make of it... personally I love it, but I don't do it very often because I'm a lazy unmotivated slug when I do.
