Pick somewhere close to the reception space; don't make your guests drive across the city from one venue to the next. Personally, I really like it when the ceremony and reception (and photo sessions) are at the same location, especially if you have activities for guests between events. We got married and had the reception at the Deane House, and during the two hours between events, guests could play bocce or croquet in the gardens there, explore Inglewood, or tour the Fort Calgary museum for free. There's less possibility of things getting lost or forgotten if you have it all at one location.

One problem with the Cochrane Ranch House is that if you plan on having the reception there you can only use one of their approved catering companies. When my wife and I were planning our wedding their list was rather short as the only two that were operating were Barbeques By Me and Great Events Catering. Since my wife was not down for us having BBQ'ed hamburgers for our wedding our only option was Great Events Catering. I kiboshed that idea when their most inexpensive plated dinner was $38 per person plus corkage fees plus bartender's cost.
Try the Devonian Gardens for your wedding. My wife and I were married there by a Commisioner of Oaths as we both think fairy tales are for children and it would have just been a matter of lying to have a clergyperson.

I looked into this for mine and sadly:

Hi Boblobla: I am sorry to report that the Leighton Centre does not accommodate wedding ceremonies anymore as they were becoming too problematic. As we are an Art Gallery and Museum that is our main focus. We have actually not had a ceremony here for several years. There are a few B&B’s in the area which may be suitable for your needs. If you get a local Foothills Guide, you may find something equally appealing. Thank-you for your inquiry.

I've catered a few weddings there and the location is fantastic. Great mountain view for photos and the close proximity to the city makes it not such an inconvenience for your guests.

But do they require you to hold the reception there? Thats the kicker with alot of these places

I'm not sure about that, but here is their website: http://www.cochraneranchehouse.ca/mu...mHome?OpenForm
there's a virtual tour available as well. From what I can tell you though, the place really is beautiful.

I believe that the Calgary Opera House allows for ceremonies now, as do SAIT and Lougheed House. All are beautiful ceremony locations...good luck!

^^ Opera House or Lougheed would be good options as they are within blocks of the Danish Club.
Danish Club can't just do the ceremony, have a quick break and then get the feedbag on? You could do pictures before the wedding to avoid the "what do we do between the wedding and dinner" fiasco.
Another option is just have the reception as a reception and go somewhere to get married or just have a small family thing with the JP. We got married in Tahiti with a few of our family/friends around and then later in the summer had the big reception/party for everyone. It worked really well.

The Opera house doesn't do weddings, at least thats what the email I got back from them said. I thought about having the wedding at the Danish Club, but the Bride is against it. Thankfully Prototype came through with a suggestion that seems to work for all involved.
Thanks to all for your suggestions

CMPunk thanks for posting this in the off topic forum. We are now looking for a variety of venues for our Dec 2009 wedding and I pulled a couple of the suggestions here as alternatives.
It sounds like you found what you were looking for which is awesome.
