I guess raccoon is plausible. Explains the fur on the underside and the hole in the front of the skull.

All I know from that 2nd picture is that it's male... Don't ask.

I was thinking the same thing. It looks like it's CGI in some way, too shiny.

there is no way it's a turtle/tortoise; clearly a mammal; you can see fur on its neck and tail
what is being called a beak is clearly a decomposed nose, upper and lower jaw and canine teeth
its a dog

Here's a follow-up from Fox News (who seem a little bitter that CNN got the scoop on them): http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,396182,00.html
According to that, the women who supposedly found this thing brought it to a friend's house where it decomposed. WTF? If I found a creepy dead creature on the beach, I can't imagine picking it up and bringing it home. I think I'd call the police and try to get in touch with some sort of animal control department and let them figure it out.
If they're being honest about this, I hope they contract some horrible disease from handling a decomposing animal of unknown origins. I don't think we need people that stupid taking up space on the planet.

Pretty much my conclusion too. I can certainly understand why some people would be disturbed though. Naked turtles are a bit of a rarity!

Yeah, the limbs don't bother me. The neck bothers me. I believe, and I have no reason to think that my belief is the truth, a turtle's neck would be thinner. Of course, the bloating could account for that. Or maybe it's a big necked tortoise. Maybe it was on steroids.

Agreed.
It's the fur, people.
No way in heck does a reptile have fur.

I didn't see the fur, still don't actually, in the original pciture. I was a biology major at one point, I'm pretty sure that would've told me not a turtle.
