#1: New Orleans- great culture, it almost feels like a different country from the rest of the States. I WILL go back at some point.
#2: Seattle- absolutely gorgeous city, and both their football and baseball stadiums are first rate. I'd move there in two seconds if I could.
#3: Los Angeles- you definitely need a car though, so spread out. So much to do, although I couldn't live there.
#4: New York- another place I couldn't live, but so much fun to visit. There's just a "vibe" about NYC thats really cool.
#5: Memphis- this actually goes for most of Tennessee, which was my favourite state I've visited. The city itself is surprisingly beautiful, and I've never met friendlier people in my life. It seemed like EVERYONE wanted to chat.
#6: Phoenix- only spent a night here, but I liked the vibe I got from it. Another very well-kept city, and I could definitely get used to the heat. Great golfing too.
...I'd love to visit Boston, Chicago, Miami and Atlanta.

Boston is great--my wife and I have lived here since the beginning of June, and unfortunately the answer to your question is "what ISN'T there to do in Boston." There's the freedom trail, Boston Common, and also great walking tours if you like that sort of thing, plus all kinds of other stuff around the city, like the Salem witch museum (which I haven't been to yet, but I hear is neat--a ways out of the city, though) or the Old North Bridge in Concord.
But if you're sticking with things in Boston proper, the best part is that you can get anywhere fast and easily on the T--best public transit system I've had the pleasure of using.
Are you staying downtown?

As OB said, I'm doing something similar and it was pretty simple to get a F1 visa. I've been to San Diego a few times in the past couple years for conferences, nice little city but not really a place I'd like to live. I know a bit about the city (and going to Tijuana ) feel free to fire a PM.
For my fav cities to visit,
1. New York
2. Las Vegas
3. San Diego

Quite a few votes for Portland... but no explanation why. Can anyone elaborate further? What is there to do in Portland?

There is just an air in that city that is really awesome. People are friendly, everything is laid back. I just think it's an awesome place to be.

I've heard this before as well. I drove through it once, but that was it. Seattle is arguably my favourite U.S. city(besides New Orleans, which IMO is extremely underrated outside of Mardi Gras), and being so close to Portland, I bet there's alot of similarities. I picture Portland as being a smaller, not-so-rushed-and-corporate version of Seattle, I'm sure its awesome there.

Ive never been to Portland either but a good friend and her husband moved there recently from the Bay Area and said it was much better because it wasn't as populated but had everything else you could want. The only thing she didnt like was that it's a bit grey and gloomy, but SF always has fog too...

Oh yeah put me in for Portland as well. Our family stayed there one night, drove through a few times. I'm not sure about things to do there, but like someone else said it seems like an interesting place with a nice feel to it.

I don't think you appreciate what a dump Philly actually is, and you were never in downtown Chicago so that doesn't count.

don't know if I have a favourite. Vegas maybe, my parents live there in the winter. I've spent time in DC, Seattle, Richmond, VA, Dallas, San Fran, SLC, Baltimore, and enjoyed all of them.
The museums in monuments im DC are amazing. Philly is huge, didn't see much of the city, just watched a couple of ball games. Baltimore, same thing. The east coast is spectacular, saw Jamestown and Virginia Beach. Dallas is a monstrosity. San Fran is one of the more beautiful cities you'll see. Love Seattle, too. Thar said, I think I like the smaller places in the US more.

People always complain about Philly but I actually had a great time there. Don't see what makes it so dumpy compared to the vast majority of cities on the eastern seaboard.
