I can go one better for irrelevant stories...
A few years ago, I got an impark ticket for 50$ for overparking for a few minutes. I sent them a cheque for two dollars and a letter explaining that I had parked for only a few minutes over the time on my ticket and that the posted rental rate at that lot was $4.00 per hour. As such I was enclosing payment for the excess time as per my contractual obligations. Their demand for payment of $50.00 was unenforceable at law because it represented a penalty for breach of contract. I would not be providing any further payment and would vigourously defend any actions taken to attempt to enforce the ticket.
Strangely enough that pile of BS had just enough law in it to scare off Impark. I park there all the time still, and have never had my car towed. Of course, I also haven't not paid to park or stayed long, so who knows, they might try and pull something.
