Sounds to me like their algorithm is essentially what search engines were doing before Google, and they forgot that the reason Google was so successful is that people were tired of their awful competitors and their lousy searches. Cuil is a step backwards, and with their poor launch, they've probably lost the early adopters (like us). They're toast.

Wow, that is a pretty bad search engine. I played with it for a bit, and couldn't find pretty simple pages that would be in the top five of a Google search.

One of the wackiest things, is that I couldn't figure out how to exclude pages with a specific word or phrase, like the "-" character on Google. One search I often do is my last name, and I specifically exclude the two semi-famous people that regularly show up.

The other thing that I find annoying is that the search results don't line up when reading left to right. I like to read left to right, and it gets confusing when I go to the second or third row.

I think I'll stick with Google.

After using it, I have a slogan for them, free of charge:

"The search site for the 90s, now available in the 21st century!"

I could write a better search engine with 2 programming lemurs supervised by a homesick macaque. It looks, literally, like someone's master degree computer science project from a 2nd rate university. And if I were the prof, it'd have gotten a solid D+.
