Not rude at all. If I was in line behind them, I wouldnt even care that it occurred. They have every right to do what they want and go to different tills, couple or not.

I can't see it taking close to 5 minutes to recieve a coffee or other kind of drink and a donut.
So, if it did take that long, I'd be directing my ire more towards the ridiculously slow moving staff rather than the modern-day couple going dutch.

Exactly. Why was the cashier making the sandwhich in the first place? Every time I've been to one, no matter the time, there is always a dedicated sandwhich maker. Did the cashier even wash his/her hands in this case? There shouldn't have been any extra time spent ordering.
edit: Just read the reply to staypuft... Still really odd. I've been two Timmy's past midnight with only two on staff and one won't do till. There's no point. Sounds like the manager at this Timmy's is clueless. Do one and one... no need to have two on till to bring in orders faster than you make em.

Obviously they have the right to do it, I never said they didn't. I can tell you to go F*** yourself, I have the right to do it, doesn't mean it is the polite thing to do.
It's one thing if the line was moving along, but like I said, I had been waiting in line for close to 10 mins already. IMO it was just plain stupid.

i dont get how it takes longer for 2 cashiers to make it seperatly than one cashier doing both? either 1 cashier takes 6 mins making 2 sandwiches or 2 cashiers spend 3 mins making 1 each, not like there is prep work that would decrease the time on the 2nd sandwhich, all the prep is done and waiting. So really it only inconvienced you and maybe the guy behind you, for the rest of the people in line its either waiting 3 mins for both till to be fully operational again or have 6 mins of 1/2 functioning tills.
not rude and not inconciderate, no different than if there was 2 seperate people in front of you. In fact most of the time it would probably go faster to make 2 small orders than one big one due to the fact that larger orders confuse timmy's and other fast food restaurant employee's

I don't think it was rude either.
They probably saved themelves a couple minutes and there is no reason to think that their time isn't just as valuable as anyone else's.
I think the best solution is to find a better place than Tim Hortons. Their coffee isn't that great... I sure wouldn't wait 10 minutes in line if that was all I was getting. Since you decided to do that, you couldn't have been that pressed for time...

No I wasn't and sometimes I wonder why I go to that friggen place but I do. However, just because I didn't have somewhere pressing to be doesn't mean my time isn't valuable.
Again it isn't that big of a deal just throwing it out there for discussion.

I'm talking about S. Florida. We had one locally in Deerfield Bch. which is just a bit north of Ft Lauderdale. The Florida Panthers practiced at a rink just down the street but it had been there quite awhile before then. Perhaps someone had opened it so Canadians would feel at home during vacation. But we all loved going there as the coffee and donuts were far better than the alternative nearby... Dunkin Donuts. Most of us had no idea who Tim Horton was. Anyway about three years ago the building was demolished to make room for a Super Target. People cried, I'm serious...

A Tim Hortons in Florida!!!?? That is bizzare. The only question I have is, did the cashiers know what a double double was?

I dont remember but I'm sure they did because there are tons of Canadians around here who would've made sure of it! I've read that Tim Hortons is trying to expand to places like Boston but as far as I know ours was the only Fl one and it was there forever . I thought there might be one down in Hollywood due to the large Canadian population in the winter but noooo......yeah we still miss it!!!

Uh... I'll add to this I guess...
This is speaking from experience at working at Tims
It is actually faster that when you have 2 tills open and 2 employees working that the employee who first took the order of something that is needed making at the sandwich bar to go and make it. Then he will stay there should there be any subsequent orders from the other till. That way, you keep the line moving and always have someone at the till. Then if all the orders are finished, he/she can go back to the till.
Also, the posters who said that having one person making the 2 sandwiches is faster than 2 people making 2 sandwiches is actually correct (Of course, this is to my experience). One person can do the entire order at pretty much the same time, where as 2 people, if they require the same ingredients, one must wait for the other to be finished before they can use it (Yes, MOST Tims are inadequate when it comes to the quantity of equipment).

Good luck with that!
There's a staff shortage going on with employers having a tough time filling all positions. Waiting is pretty much standard these days. Show some patience or don't patronise these establishments.

I didn't say it is bothering me and I can't sleep at night because this couple decided to go to seperate cash registers. I am simply making discussion on the appropriateness of this action.
Obviously one of the reasons that they did this was to pay seperately, but like I mentioned earlier, that couldn've be done at the same register?

In this situation, the fact that they are a couple is not really relevant. They obviously wanted to pay separately. This would be no different than if two friends went there and did the same thing. Now, if I am at a place like Tim Hortons or any other fast food joint with someone else and was planning on paying separately, I would do the same thing. Going to the till together, ordering together and then paying separately is just asking for confusion. Most times I expect multiple food orders taken at once to end up on one bill. Then all the other customers would be annoyed at it taking so long because of the bill corrections.
Now if it was more efficient for them to have one person make both sandwiches, they should have recognized that. Determining the most efficient method of working is not up to the customer.

If I was in line somewhere with someone, and we were ordering separately, then who cares? I do this all the time- wait in line with a buddy, and then go to a different cashier. If someone ever said something to me about that being rude, I would give them a piece of my mind. Personally, I think you are making a big deal for no reason.

Just started dating...the guy is sure making a good impression. He doesn't want to spend his money on her. LOL "Pay for your own food, b!tch", I can so hear him saying that.
