There's nothing wrong with those names other than they're trendy (which is what the original commenter was getting at, I think)

You wanna talk stripper names, call your girl Destiny or Candy... or Luvscock

YNAT's Rules for naming children:

Never pick a name that everyone else is using at the time. (i.e. Madison)
Never Change the spelling of a common name so that it looks like you are illiterate. (i.e. Makenzy)
Never, under any cercumstances, give a girl a boy's name, nor a boy a girl's name (i.e. Taylor for a girl)
Watch for simple rhymes & other things that kids may make fun of, but take note that you can't prevent everything. Kids will make things up to tease someone if they want to, no matter the name.

I dunno, I'm a little torn between naming my future son either Thanos or Optimus Prime. Little Optimus will be the coolest kid in his group of future friends.

Suprised no-one's brought this one up yet...

I swear almost every baby girl born in the last two years is named Ava or Eva... it's really getting annoying... oh yes and I know two people also that named the daughters Madison aroudn the same time

On a related note, here is a neat little web site that shows how the popularity of names have changed over time.

OK, I've lived in North America for 14 years now, but one thing I don't get: why do so many parents give their girls first names that are typically last names (Mackenzie, Taylor, Riley, Jordan)?

I always thought it would be great to name your child a normal name from a different ethnicity.

For example, I am full-blooded Ukrainian, and hypothetically speaking, assuming I have a wife who is also, to give our children a name from out of left field. Whereas everyone is expecting me to name my kid something normal (James, David, Robert, etc.) , I give some crazy JAPANESE name for no apparent reason or having any established connection!

Mom: So have you decided on a name for your child yet, Ozy?

Ozy: Sure have mom! Tadanori Mitsuharu!

Mom: um...What? Why?

Ozy: Because it's a real name with real value. At least I'm not naming my kid Skyler.

I want to name my kid 'Your Honor'. That way he will feel special everytime someone calls his name.

....That or 'Doctor'.

Names I have been exposed to:

Justus (Boy- yes, with 2 "u"s)
Destiny Dawn
Love
Meaghean (aka Megan....but with extraneous vowels to make it "unique")
Shiearra (Pronounced "Sierra"...like the truck. I suspect this had more to do with the parents having to SOUND OUT the name.....)
Ridge (Boy)
Dakota (boy)
Colorado (Boy- I kid you not.)
Mackenzie (both boy AND girl in same class...that was confusing)
Miikayla (Girl- Michaela)
Venise (Girl- pronouced like the city of Venice. Nevermind that half the people pronounced it so it rhymed with pen!s. Not to be confused with the VENUS from the year before)

And the one that almost drove me to giggles...

Rhode. As in, Rhode Island. Nice.

I guess because I've live in very liberal Bay Area, I have heard interesting names..

- A couple of you mentioned Mikayla...a couple of my coworkers have daughters (one is only 2 weeks old) named that!
- Brooklyn (Brook for short) for a girl!
- Sodona
- Flora
-Serendipity

Yup Eva seems to be really popular as does Hunter (now for a girl, I thought it was a boys name!)

I don't know the exact name, but a friend of mine worked for a couple whose last name begins with the letter H. They named their daughter something like Hannah Hayley, mostly at the insistence of the husband. It took the wife a couple months until she saw her husband watching wrestling that she realized that her daughter's initials were HHH, the same as the popular pro-wrestler.
